Hello professor, I am glad to learn you teach at the academy! I am a current student of AAU, and it would be awesome to meet ya. Which days do you teach and what building?

    - Thank you

Hey Kevin, just discovered your work. It´s really something! Very inspiring to see that you eventually turned to art. I myself am trying to juggle a daily job in the cultural branche whilst spending as much time on arts and music as I can. Also a huge fan of Rockwell´s work (if I feel but a bit uninspired, one look is enough to get me to the drawing board again). I also love the work of Sebastian Krüger, check this guy out, insanely good! Anyways, I wish you much luck with your journey and I'll be checking back as much as I can!
  3. Matt - well you have made great progress w/o the teachers so I think if you got in front of some good teachers you would excel. your work reminds me a bit of how they teach at Studio Incamminati in Philly ( Nelson Shanks School).. Kerry Dunn, one of his students and teachers there - check out his work - he is featured also in the new American artist workshop mag. Henry Yan is planning to do workshops ( he does some every year) outside of his teaching at AAU and he also typically will sell drawings he does at workshops to students if they are interested. I don't own any Henry drawings - would love to have one though! Zhao Ming wu - same thing. I don't know your financial situation but getting to workshops can be useful ( not always but often). The biggest thing that will help an art student develop, I believe - is a kind-of maniacal drive.. keep that and you will go far! ( that's my plan anyway!) - best - Kevin

Hi Kevin- Now I'm even more jealous! You own originals by two of my favorite artists! That's insane! To give you a little background on myself. I got my BFA from the College of Visual Arts here in St. Paul Minnesota. I didn't get the traditional drawing and painting skills I wanted from the school so I began drawing and painting at art co-ops in the city here and began really taking studying the figure and trying to develop my skills seriously. And now I can't get enough of painting and drawing from life. Even though everyday I try to paint from life I'm humbled by how much I really suck! LOL. But I'm determined to get better. So I guess you could say I'm kind of self taught.

Thanks for the drawing supplies info!

    Keep up the great work!

  5. Hey Matt - most of the charcoal drawings on CA are charcoal pencils by general ( typically 4b) and wolff's carbon 4b pencils.. sometimes conte noire 2b pencils..almost all on 18 x 24 newsprint. I am doing some things on toned paper lately but am now studying with Tony Ryder at his atelier/school for the next 9 months ( to learn a bit about the traditional drawing and painting methods). most of my recent paintings on CA are on canson 12 x 16 canva paper alla-prima and from life. I am friends with both Henry and Zhao Ming and yes I am very lucky to have them as teachers!! ( I have original works by both of them!).. check out Tony Ryder and one of my recent figure drawing teachers: Glen Orbik - all such talented folks - lucky to get their teaching!!!

keep up the good work man!!

    where are you studying ?
