What would happen if you could freely mix and match the genes of any animal with your own? Well this is what happened when I mixed my genes with an angler fish. I'd be interested in seeing what other people would look like with there genes mixed.

FRESH!!! I am all over this. I am a sculptor myself, and I hardly ever see other sculptors on here, and this is great man. I love it. I am glad to see imagination being used in this way. Keep it up.:chug: Is it Super Sculpey mixed with some black and white...or something else altogether? I think the irony in this sculpt is funny...in that the character has gills, yet smokes a cigarette, and would obviously have to be out of water to do so. I can imagine it exhaling the smoke out it's gills at the side. Very lifelike, and detailed just right.:) Reminds me a bit of Gabe Perna's work...and that's a compliment...trust me.
I myself have done the splicing animals with animals, but not human with animal. Perhaps I should try. Your imagination in exactly what I like. MORE MORE!!!:D

This is amazing. I especially like the addition of the "cigarette." Apparently, this is a genetic combination of you, an angler fish AND Bob Marley.

thanks for the compliments everyone. Scotty to answer your question its an oil/sulfur based clay called plastilina. You can sculpt incredible detail with it and it never dries so you can always rework it, but that means its also easily susceptible to damage.

AH Plastilina!! So you can't bake it hard? Regardless...I love it man. Very well done. Thanks for responding to my question. Have you done other sculptures? I'd really like to see 'em. :chug: One of my loves is sculpting....so is creature design. So to see something as creative as this really brightens my day. :)

Very cool! honestly, when I read the title, i thought I'd see just another lame furry chick but this is and animal cross that's...dare I say... Original! The elongated head and exagurated facial features give him a lot of personality, and the cigar's like the cherry on top.
My only concern, is that the gills and the fold going from the sides of his mouth look a lot like those of Abe from the new Hellboy movie. I don't remember the link off the top of my head but I doubt it's a big problem anyway.
Again, well done! You've got great sculpting skills!

looks like you had a lot of fun playing around with proportions.....man....now I think I too need to do some sculpts.........How long did it take you to do that?......and how are you able to balance the bust???

thats freaking brilliant.
you should take this into photoshop and paint over it/manipulate it. you could make it look like the head light is lighting your ciggy.
i use to use that stuff.. it smelled like hell and made my hands oily and stinky and was a bitch to wash off.
when i was younger i would sculpt heads and then randomly shove black cats into the sculptures to blast out areas and open the thing up in weird ways.. the results were mixed.
advice:: if you like this sculpture and you want to keep it.. build a glass or plexiglass case for it because you dont want to have to dust it and on a long enough time line it will get damaged if its out in the open. i also seem to remember that this stiff starts to loose moisture and develope cracks
after a few years.

straight raw - are the cheeks a little plain?
I LOVE the jawline, maybe there could have been one or two more fins coming up the cheek?
No real complaints, too cool.

man, I've done a couple of sculptures, but I always stop because I can't handle it as well as a pencil or paintbrush, but this will definetly get my ass to try again.
I was wondering how big it is though.

Thanks again for everyones input. To answere a few questions, the scale is 1:1, to my head. So the height from top of fin to base is about 18 inches tall. The reason why its able to stand without falling is because there is a styrofoam core armature that is hot glued directly to the base. The styrofoam cuts down on weight and cost.
This is a drawing of the original concept.

..wow, what a beautiful gesture.
one suggestion - all these shapes would look better if there were more secondary forms, like muscles and bone structure underneath the skin. that would make it seem a lot more belieavable, and add to the flow of things you've already made possible.

wonderful piece. Do a lot of concept artists do sculptures before they draw something? So they can see what it would look like at all angles?
