Hello everyone,
We created a Half-life 1 mod called Natural Selection (http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns) which successfully fused first-person shooting and real-time strategy gameplay in a "marines vs. aliens" sci-fi environment. Natural Selection was released in 2002 and became the most popular independent Half-life mod. It has been played over 1.5 billion player-minutes and we estimate we have a player-base of about 300,000 people.
Now we're working on Natural Selection 2. We're Half-life 2 engine licensees and we're going to sell it on Steam ( http://www.steampowered.com) this time around. You may have seen our dynamic infestation video (http://www.unknownworlds.com/blog/2006/12/dynamic_infestation.html ) that circled the net a few months ago, which we think will make gameplay much more dynamic. We're also making the game totally moddable (through script ( http://www.unknownworlds.com/blog/2007/02/prosumers_and_natural_selectio_1.html) and our own tools (http://www.unknownworlds.com/blog/2007/05/lua_debugging_1.html ) we'll be giving away), so we think the game is really going to take off.
We are in need of a concept artist to help us with environments, weapons, aliens, and basically anything else that's going in the game. We've had some fantastic talent ( http://www.unknownworlds.com/blog/mt/mt-search.cgi?IncludeBlogs=1&search=concepts ) in this area so far but those guys all have full-time jobs that are taking too much of their time. We need someone that can commit a solid 15-20 hours a week if at all possible.
We are a core of two full-time people in San Francisco (we're doing all the design, programming, and management) with a small distributed team of about 6 other folks that are scattered around the world. We are paying everyone through royalties - you track your hours, and you will be paid accordingly a percentage of our gross profits for the first 6 months of sales.
If this sounds interesting to you, please send your portfolio to us at jobs@unknownworlds.com (jobs@unknownworlds.com), or visit us at http://www.unknownworlds.com ( http://www.unknownworlds.com), or on our new MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/naturalselection2 ).
Thanks!
