I entered photo 1 this year to try my hand at photography and found that i like it a lot, i don't have a digital camera, hence the poor quality of the pictures. most of them are skating pictures of my buddy joe. number 5 has a little gunk on it because my scanner had some stuff i neglected to clean when i scanned it in. crits welcome, tell me what you guys think.

G'day, welcome to the phorum! I am the resident action sports photographer, and always looking for others to join me :D.

Overall, you need to work on your sharpness. Even if you are using film, you should be able to produce a sharp image, and #2 shows that you have it but 1,3,4,5 and 6 are lacking.

1. This is a great find, all you need to do is get it a bit sharper and it will be excellent. Check out stine's stuff for amazing nature photography.

2. This is easily the best, you've got the exposure spot on and the feel is great. The only thing I would suggest is possibly using a smaller aperture just to get the lens in focus, but that's a matter or opinion.

3. This is okay, the background is really blown out though and that really detracts from the photo. The figure is also to central, which makes the photo static rather than dynamic.

4. another great capture, but a crap scan. I think he's out of focus, but I can't tell due to the superlow quality. Shame, because this would have been awesome if it was nice and sharp :D. The other thing is, you might want to have a bit less wall so that there's somewhere for the eye to predict where he'd go (does that make sense?).

5. see 3, same things really.

6. superblown out, I think other stencils would provide a better shot. Try again though!

7+8 documentary, not artistic. amusing nonetheless.

Looking forward to more of your stuff mate.

thanks man, i know what you're talking about with the sharpness, i get frustrated with that myself. i'm really hoping to improve over the summer, i wanna buy a digital camera so i can upload them and have them maintain their quality. i understand what you mean with the "predict where he's going" deal. it was really "his" photoshoot, he wanted all his pictures centered and so on, i had to listen to him, he payed for the film. i tend to underestimate my aperture and shutter speed a great deal, and i need to cut it out. my teacher like, subconciously scared me into not going any fruther than 5.6.

Hahaha, I rarely shoot above 4.5 for my skate stuff unless I have to, I'd shoot faster even lower with a better lens :D. I only do when f/4.5, 1/4000 + ISO 200 is too slow (and this is not common, although I have done it in the past)

Wow, you sure were busy. :) Nice photos. You're the 3rd person here to post flower/garden pics. :D Enough with my blabbering and on to my C&C...

1 & 15: I like the compositions, but I think they're a little underexposed.

4: I love the contrasting colors here! Maybe the orange parts could be a little sharper?

11: Really nice exposure on this one. Maybe play around with cropping to lessen the effect of the empty green space?

18: Wonderfully exposed pinks. :) Maybe crop out the petals along the right side?

19: I think this one could be sharper in the center, assuming that it should be the focal point of the photo.

20/21: (Double Post?)I really love this one, so many textures and very energetic.

23: This is a nice one. :)

25: Really nice photo. Would probably crop out the blurred plant in the background because it's a bit distracting.

28. Very wonderfully exposed, but the composition is lacking.

35 & 36: LOVE THEM! :D So cute. Little sibling or relative?

Overall a very yummy update, just make sure you pay attention to your exposure and don't be afraid to play around with cropping to better your compositions. :)

thanks purplerose, i plan on cropping some of these when i get back home, for now these were straight off the camera. thanks for all the critiques. i definately need to work on more "compelling" compositions, but thanks for all the kind words as well. 35 and 36, this kid was just a kid i didn't know but he kept begging me to take pictures of him and his mom was laughing and encouraging me so i snapped a few, and i thought these two were really good. 37 however is my cousin.

I personally prefer the original ones, i also think that the better use of PS is thje one you can't see.
Here you loose a little of image quality.
P.S.
What kind of camera has your aunt?

Nice editing on 6, 10 & 2. I agree with Asadex somewhat when it comes to #5 & #7.

asadex- thanks for your input, i agree and disagree, i like the sutblety of some photos that have been edited, but then, i also like the blown-out vibrancy that others have. but for #2 i didn't know if i liked it better than the original. all in all, it was just goofing around, i've never edited in PS before, but htanks for the advice, when i looked back on some of my photos they just looked dull and grey and boring. i don't know what kind of camera she had, all i know is that it was niiiiiice.

purplerose- thanks, i see what you mean with 5, it seems a bit too vibrant, but i think #7 looks cooler with the colors rather than the overall grey tones, but then again they are my photos, of course i'm gonna like them my way. but i do feel like 2 and 6 were the most sucessful.

thanks to both of you for your comments.
