How does a community college compare to an art school in terms of basics. I mean basics such as drawing, painting, 2d & 3d design, 2d & 3d animation and scupturing. Am I wasting my time going to a community college for a year or so, compared to attending an art school? I want to be a 3d animator/modeler/artist. I plan to eventually attend a 3d program like gnomon/vfs/etc. For some reason the DAVE school believes that you do not need 2d skills to work in 3d. I don't understand how that is possible. Any tips or advice?

It just depends on each school, some offer decent programs. Community colleges can give you a good foundation. But the programs can offer you more. Because after all you make the art, not the school. But I believe it is good to go to a community college for a little so you can broaden your horizons. The way I see it is the more I know, understand and exposed to is for the better. (Plus I love to learn all sorts of things.)
Art school is if you want to get a higher degree of education in whatever field. That doesn't mean you have to go, it just depends on what you want. Ask these fella's here, they know more about the art school path.

But remeber not all schools are equal....

Best of luck to you and God Bless. Live the dream.
