Hey guys, I've been struggling with this for the last 2 days and I think I pretty much narrowed it down to Painter's file format.

Painter seems to corrupt high-res images (mine was at around 7000x5000), when you save them as RIF. I tested this both on Windows 2K on Painter IX and on Windows XP 64 on Painter IX and X. Different machines, both with plenty of RAM. 4Gigs in case of the Windows XP box, 2 Gigs on the Win2K box.

If I save the same file as PSD, it will load fine. Save it as RIF and the image loads corrupt with a lot of artifacts, color bands etc. Of course by saving as PSD you lose some Painter features, like impasto etc.

Just a heads up, so you don't end up losing work and wasting time trying to figure things out like I did. Also if any Corel guys are reading this, fix your file format.

It also happen to me.

When the virtual memory is insufficient Painter IX (which I use) make errors with colors on particular layers, but for me it's similar with RIF and PSD formats. Sometimes changing the temp system file and adjusting the virtual memory helps. It also occurs during the saving process. The broken file looks awful with mixed color errors and big spots of a single color on particular layers and it's simply not to rescue.

Also I noticed an error about RIF files that sometimes they corrupt the file in several places (mainly in the range of a particular layer) that the layer looks like compressed with a lower quallity.

So it's a notification to Painter users to check their works and make some backups in several file formats. Big resolution files have their disadvantages however they're necesary.

Thank you for letting us know.
Greetings!
