Hello,
Here are some more mutineers moon environment concepts done for ADV Films. I'm still learning my own way to painting enviornments in photoshop, so crits are definitly welcome.
This first image is nothing too finished, it's a city concept sketch. A futuristic outside mall setting.

This second image is an underground base concept.

'sigh'
lol a bit heavy handed on the influences chum... ;)
I'm diggin the colours in these much more than the last few!
Seems to me if there was a bit more hue and chroma fluxtuation in the right mid-foreground element you could perhaps show more of a modulation of space... because of the use of the same value from left to right in the foreground ..in a sense it all seems be on the same plane...
hmm not sure that was too clear... I'm email you what I mean...
diggin it,
-Joshua

These are both great.
I really like the underground base concept. Good choice of colors.

really nice job. I like the sketchiness of it all, especially the top one. It has the surreal feeling. First glance I would say Painter 8, but Photoshop? Nice. You seem to be doing something that works great. Are you using a custom brush, cause it almost looks like a pallete knife?

Hey thanks everyone.
Josh,
Thanks for the crit, I agree with what you say about the hue and chroma fluxtuation in the right-mid foreground. Now that you point that out, I realize I forgot to do what your saying. I'm still learning about how much detail one should paint for a concept, and what tricks to do to pull off something believable and clear enough to explain what it's suppose to.
Glenn,
Glad you like the colors. For the underground base I decided to experiment with different colors more.
Neble,
Yeah, I used one custom brush for most of it, it was a long thin brush that gave me some of the same effects as a flat brush used for oil painting. I was changing the angle of it for painting certain shapes. I'm glad you like the sketchy look, I'm currently trying to figure out ways to make my environments more crisp, fast. I like to design a lot as well as paint. In the top painting, if I had another week, I'd like to design and clearify more of it.
Egerie,
I though it'd be fun to put those names in there, hope it wasn't too heavy handed.:p

I especially like the depth and scale of the second one. It's very atmospheric.

Yee-haw!Excellent painitngs, Chris! Theres a great sense of scale and form in these paintings, and they defintely set a mood. Nice color, although I think it could be even more chromatic in certain areas, but that could just be my taste. Oh yeah and if you wanted to take these to the next level, you know, give it that extra kick, I've got two words for you....
LIGHTING EFFECT
haha! If you put one large spotlight focusing on the light in the distance and a smaller one to bring out the secondary lighting in the foreground, there would be some really nice results, contrast-wise.
I think it would be cool to see you take on some other kind of environmental subject matter now that you've got your technique down. I know this stuff is all for ADV, but I really feel like the futuristic megalopolis is overdone these days. How about doing something ancient or fantasy based?

First off, i like the movement of the first pic.
Second, if joshua and you are talking about the second pic, i agree, the area with the green sems to be kinda flat.
Post more!

Thanks guys,
Hey Sean,
Hahahaa, good ol lighting effects! Good suggestion to do a few more different backrounds other than futuristic. Now that I think about it I see how I would have to think a little differenlty about the way I would paint something ancient or fantasy based.
Nardfrog, yeah, the next backround I do, I'm definitly going to make sure I consentrate on creating good distance from foreground to backround so things aren't so flat.

I can't do any better at environments but I thought I'd give my 2 cents.
Besides what everyone has mentioned. the bottom pic seems to be tilting to the left a bit...
Please Keep posting your environments
