If you don't want it to be a .psd with all the layers and such... I personally would use .png, or the highest quality .jpg

the image is 120x100 cm and its going to be printed in these dimensions. So i chose TIFF

its just killing my computer because its half a gig!

Wow, that's big =P As the thing says, .tiff typically results in large image files. I've never read that thing before... it was actually quite helpful. After reading it, I'd still say .png is the best bet. It's very rare to come across a program or browser that doesn't support it these days, despite what that article says. It mightn't have been updated for a while or something...

for print:

If it's colour, generally you want to choose EPS, and depending on what information you want in the file (such as spot colour information, transparency, etc...) it will be DCS 1.0 or 2.0. You can look in the adobe help dialogue to get the specific params for each. EPS carries over information that Photoshop files do not, that's why it is ideal for using in print.

If it's Grayscale It's good to use Tiff.

for Web:

For high-quality loss-less files, use PNG. For comps, low-quality posts, and all else, of course it is jpg.
