Hello guys :)

I'm new here, so I'm gonna start with my sketch book before jumping in the big "official" sections of the forum ;) I'll post here some of the work I like and sometimes that I don't, but that will be part of my evolution as an artist :)

Just in case someone asks, I'm 18 and plan of becoming a freelancer.

1. Fire Summer
Done April 1st with a reference; http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/44895783/

It was a study of the woman body.

2. Sun and Sand
Done May 1st
Done with a reference for the torso.

3. Kazeko II
Done June 4th
Cartoon/manga style ;) For fun.

~ ~ ~

I'll try to post in here at least once a week ! :3 Comments and critiques are always welcomed !

Alright. I just finished this. For wips, you can see the sketch section.

It's supposed to be a Water Goddess. I am generally satisfied with the result but I could have put more energy into it, really.

It's missing something.... Any clue what it could be ?

You started an sb! awesome. :D http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a311/SanativeStigma/beer.gif

I think for that last one, it could use some intense lighting or something.
Like, from the bottom left.

Hey! Welcome to CA! Enjoy your stay ;)

I like the cleaningness in your works,also nice colors on the first one!

I agree with kool-ka-lang about more dramatic lighting,and maybe to puch up the contrast a bit!

Anyway keep it up! ;)

Alright... the Water Goddess with some contrast :) The dark clouds are fading away ! Oh oh...

I think that's pretty much the final version. Let's pass to something else... :)

EDIT: I also added a blue-ish effect to her skin. It's minor but better than nothing at all !

Nice SB :) All your works have an almost saturated vividness about them. I like the elemental themes with all of the women you've painted. Keep it going man. :}

Alrighty - another work of mine. It was an art trade with a friend. She wanted me to draw her original character.

Her character by Thera: http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/3514/14abcoverlj1.png

And this is what I did with it :)

The color shading is great. Something not perfect with the eyes simmetry.
Nice works, anyway

Here's a Sketch I did for SKOTW on forums.narutofan.com :)

The theme was Taboo.

- - -
A young African spends all his money for a one way ticket to Canada. He is not rich, so the best he could get was a ticket inside... a cargo ship. He is stuck during a week inside a metal box. If he is piled at the bottom, he might lack oxygen. If he's at the top, he might fall at the sea if there's a storm. If he arrives in Canada safe, and not captured to be sent back to his country, he will live a miserable life and won't receive any help from the government.

In Canada, there are practically no statistics about these people who sacrifice everything in hope of a better life. Many die, many are sent back. But no one talks about it. It's a taboo.

There seems to be a storm right now. And some of the compartments are falling at the bottom of the sea. But none of us really knows what... or who was inside.

Technically talking, this is not one of my best artworks - it's an entry for Sketch of the Week. And that's what it is, a Sketch. The perspective is not that bad though. The theme is what I considered the most.

Hey there,

nice SB you got here, lovely digitals, very smooth and nice :P I really like the first digi you posted, very nice colours that work very nicely together :) Keep on going with all of them. Good sketch for sketch the week, you were right in just doing a sketch and not a 3 hour painting. Dont forget to draw tho, this will also help :)

Keep it up,

My last drawing. I suck at settings, so this was a good practice. The lights and all are not perfect but eh, I did what I could this time, and next time it will be better :)

I like the central character though. The setting is the one of the Moon - she's on the moon and the light you see there is the Sun. Of course, the Moon doesn't actually look like this. I created it a beginning of atmosphere (which the moon doesn't have). Lady on the moon here she is ;)

Hey V :) I remember seein' your work in the WIP forum.. spiffy SB ya got here :teeth: Very colorful <3

Two things you might want to watch yourself on -- a) eyes: I know they're not always perfectly symmetrical, but that floating superhero girl's eyes are off :\... and b) upper arms: the blue girl's left upper arm should prolly be bigger, and moon-lady's right upper arm is a little long..

Just some things to keep in mind :) Keep up the great work! :teeth:

vervex
July 14th, 2007, 05:20 PM
Thanks Amon :)
For Lady on the Moon, I know her arm is too long - but when somebody made me notice it, I had already started coloring it, so I just let it like that. I'll be more careful next time.
Thanks for dropping by :)

Alright, here's what I'm working on right now. Black and white piece. The background will be a red wall so I'll add some red reflections on her skin later.

You have some really nice paintings, and soft skin tones going on here. Your knowledge of women's anatomy is also very good, I love the first pose, it's very natural feeling.

What I can say about what you've done, is your faces need a little work. The first piece, the face is the only part that bugs me, it doesn't fit right. Also, in the latest piece you posted, I think the woman could use a bit more forehead, as it seems a tad small :)

RaistlinTheDark

So here's a speed painting with reference of a man's body. I figured out I was doing a damn lot of women ahah... Men's turn today :)

Hey,

haha, "mens turn today", who do you think you are? hehe :D:D That white on your figure really stands out, its nice! You #29 post was very nice! I would like to see some drawings from you though!

Keep it up !!!

yeah nice start :) You really cannot get past the really clear usefulness of drawing though -- pencil on paper, it just cant be beat. I fought it at first myself but gave in a few months ago and my ability to draw correctly, unreferenced, skyrocketed (for me ;) I'm still not really good at it compared to most people here)

I know its a pain and can be boring - but hunt down some great pencil sketch books - Loomis and Vanderpoel are some excellent ones - and just do some studies.

July 20th, 2007, 10:38 PM
@Qxzi
You mean creations without reference at all ?

@Runecaster
I occasionally draw on paper, but not that often. Most of my human sketches are done on paper though, don't worry ;) I love digital art for all the colors you can use and for the final results :) Thanks for passing by!

Some speed sketches... :P
Next time I'll post something better. These were mostly because I was bored and/or skotw :)

I love the work so far the style you pose is interesting. The color choice per picture to character idea is simple yet will due. That is to say its eye catching. Keep up the work my friend the future looks promising for you, for sure.

You have some wonderful skin tones and paintings of the female figure in here. Post 29 has great contrast between the colors of the figure and the background. In the pieces before your colors are to complimentary between the figure and background so that the figure does not "pop" as well. Keep posting, I'll be looking forward to it!

@Silvestri
You're right, I have to be careful with backgrounds ;) I'm working on that :)

Thanks a lot Shiro and The Chosen One :)

Now, a silly sketch for CHOTW on another forum, very friendly competition. Took me 20-30 minutes. Theme was "Barbarian" :P

I have started some more "refined" works but didn't finish them... I don't think I will. They're not what I really wanted them to be. Bleh. In the next week I should post something better ahah :P

I haven't posted in a long time... I've started a lotta drawings I didn't finish, unfortunately...

But here are some novelties :)
I've done a quick Snape sketch (crap)...
But better than that, I'm working on a female Jedi :)
If you have any idea for a brief background, tell me... I'm clueless. :| Nothing too complicated - it's a character conception before anything else.

I've been very unproductive this summer... I feel angry because I don't find inspiration to draw. Perhaps stress or frustration?

First, texture experimentation. Quickie.
Second done with Paint :)

I am enjoying your SB.

I like where you are going with your ideas and colors.
One critique I can't help but give...if you are focussing on cartooning, anime, or anything of the like, then keeping your figures outlined is acceptable.

But if you are reaching to produce art outside of cartooning, I say try harder to constrain yourself less with outlines on your figures and work on showing more depth to your form. Exercise to draw your shapes without outlines sometimes.
I'm sure you've probably heard this before but outlining forms, especially human forms gives them a flat appearance and feel. Just a thought.

AmontilladoAg
September 21st, 2007, 07:24 PM
You didn't really do that purple 'n' gold chick in MS Paint, did you? :x Dude...

And yeah, Troglodyte's got a point -- also, you might think about easing up on the slanting eyes every now and then; not that they're not cool, just for variety... :bashful:

Still luv your colorz, btw :) Clearly, the Force is with you. :P

@George
Thanks a lot :)

@Troglodyte
I see what you mean perfectly and noticed it also. In fact, I notice it all the time. I'm trying to reduce the use of lines, especially in the lips, nose and around the body area.
Thanks for the tip though :)

@Amon
Done with Paint yes :)
And for the eyes, you mean "asian-like"?

vervex

New artwork.
Simplicity in the background. Time is suspended, she is still. Total Inertia, posting, silence.
Contrasting the swirls around her.

A long time since I posted ;)

I have been drawing but more traditionally. I've taken a basic art class and I had the chance to experience live models. The papers in which we're drawing are way too big to be scanned.

Either way, here's a new portrait.
Not polished, just like I wanted it to be. Background lacks precision to me but it doesn't seem all that bad.
It's of course Konan, from Naruto ;)

your heavy outlines are flattening everything a little too much.. i would suggest addressing that at some point in the future. also, i would like to see you using more varied reference for your female faces, a lot of them appear to be the same (drawn from your head?). its obvious that the rerefenced images are the stronger of works when compared to the ones from your mind. one can only improve one's imagination by feeding it with reference - and lots of it! keep it up mate :)

I will use your advice for the outlines.

As for the references, they are all very different. From different photographers and different models.
To me, the females I drew don't look the same. It's also the first time I receive this comment.
Perception perhaps?

Thanks for commenting though.

I think you should try to add variety to faces because stoph is right. Basicly it's same face again and again, only thing changing is skin colour and size of the lips. And that can be corrected easily.

All and all, I like what I see here. Although if you are going to make a comic with that kind of panel desing then it's going to be a odd book. :D That could actually be a good thing if you could afford the printing..

Keep posting and drawing. I think that you could make some money with you're drawings.

Here's a piece I finish yesterday :) It was something pretty ambitious for me, and I took my time to finish it (10h more or less).

I definitely wanna do more of those!

Oh god, this work got featured as Image of the the Day on ImagineFX on June 9th! Wonderful <3 :^))))
