The Bad Troll project

Hello there. I was watching this forum for a year and learned alot , so finaly i decided to learn some more and start posting :). I am not verry good since i never learned drawing in school i went to some lessons where they learned me what is perspektive ,shadows and other usefull stuf too. I am going to be verry happy to know what do u think about my first serious photoshop pic , and happyer to have some crits on it.

Im working on this troll ,but i dont have any idea what to put behind him.
Any ideas?I would like to hear some ideas for the troll too.

And i want some crits and advices, since this is one of my first photoshop drawings.

The illustration as a whole as a sort of children's storybook quality to it which i like. You also have a good eye for the values in tree and the body.

The trolls legs look like they need some attention. The one on the left looks too stiff, and both look like they're a bit small for his body. While you could still go the stumpy-legs route, they don't look like they 'fit' for some reason I can't pin down. I also suggest starting to clean up and clear up the values used in detailed areas like the face or his fist. While the suggestion of the forms is there, and strong, it still looses some clarity in the details.

Ideas for the troll? Hmmm...

Well, how 'bout a small village in the distance (thatched roofs, etc.), and he could be holding a little kid upside down by the ankle -- deciding if he should "throw it back" -- while the little kid's not scared of him at all; he's mad at this big annoying bully for messing with him. [I'm gettin' all this from the troll's current stance/posture, btw]...

Or.... he could have just picked up a large glowing orb he found deep in the forest.. and then you could have the orb's rightful owner, a sorceress, hiding in the brush on the left, about to pounce and reclaim her missing seeing-stone... :D

Bijutsu-san , ill try to make the legs softer and maybe bigger in the hips.Also will work on the face and details. Thank you for the help.

AmontilladoAg at first the troll was angry at some buterfly but i eresed it.Thanks for the ideas ,but i think ill go for the butterfly.Also will add some details on him like some fangs and other troll trophy crap. Still im not sure for the village.Ill go crazy and will post the update soon. Anyway thanks for the attention and help.


Ill make the troll in the gray scale first and if i dont get to lazy i think ill go for a colorfull troll.

I did most of the background aint too intresting but i gues thats why its in the back.
I got confused with this all background thing and there is what i created, some crazy 2footed nohanded creators came out of the forest and they are shocked to see a troll who is trying to catch/kill a butterfly.

No work on the troll was done im going to work on the legs and specialy on the feet tomorow. Also will do some more details on the weapon and the trolls fashion style ,.......
