Awhile back I remember a post from davi saying that rather than coping poses from anatomy books directly to learn anatomy, it would be better to use a photo reference pose and draw the anatomy over it based on that pose. (or something to that extent).

Anyway that idea stuck with me and I decided to give it a try. The original pose on the left was sight referenced from the "Illustrators Figure Reference Manual". I also used anatomy books for reference as I was blocking in the muscle structure. I plan on doing more of these type of studies because I think this is a great way to understand muscle structure and how it relates to things like weight, motion and gravity.

The drawings of the arms are direct studies I did a while ago from "Artistic Anatomy".

Cool idea. Looks like you did a good job. I've been thinking about doing something like that also, but first I need to learn all the muscles.

A very good job. I know I should do this, but it kinda scares me.

Keep in mind to still watch your proportions, though. The head is kind of big. Also... one way to really test your knowledge is to go to a museum, find a sculpture or statue of a figure, and do studies from multiple angles.
