View Full Version : doodle madness
June 3rd, 2007, 05:49 PM
well kids, its been a long time for me. i havn't been on the forums for around a year now...but i missed you all sooo much.
these are in no particular order, just starting with a dump of what ive been up to, most are done pretty quickly.
June 13th, 2007, 02:27 AM
here is a little something that i have been poking at this week, you can see the model for the caveboy on polycount.
June 13th, 2007, 03:58 AM
here is another doodle of the sasquatch, in theory, there will be 3 variations...sasquatch, yheti, and bigfoot, and the cave man will have to defeat each of them...i dont know, i get bored and just run with shits.
sooo, crits, comments, anything, hows the weather where you are at...
June 13th, 2007, 11:48 AM
Some cool designs especially franky and the yeti, though a few such as the guy in the glasses could do with some sharper/harder edges
June 13th, 2007, 12:22 PM
youv obviously got a good imagination, the frankenstein bloke is really well done and for some reason very funny. do you have any pencil drawings lying about id like to see them
June 13th, 2007, 02:10 PM
very cool paintings... im digging the skinny pirate 3d model and Frankenstein.
June 13th, 2007, 02:15 PM
Hehe dig the style! Skinny pirate is awsome!
Good stuff indeed, keep updating! :D
June 24th, 2007, 02:48 AM
thanks guys, yeah, i never really go in and sharpen stuff up. i just doodle to get out ideas of things that are gonna end up 3d.
here is another sasquatch...it's kind of my thing at the moment
August 14th, 2007, 03:24 PM
i havnt been sleeping lately, trying to make a portfolio, chasing that "job". but on the bright side, i have all night to doodle, this was last nights pic and the night before.
and if i get around to it, these may end up models
August 18th, 2007, 03:00 AM
here is the first one, touched on a bit more, i think im gonna finally get around to finishing that model
August 18th, 2007, 03:47 AM
You have some very cool paintings here! They are so funny and full of life! Its very inspirational :)
I love the three latest! The monkey with the tusks are pretty neat to!
Very nice work you have here. I'll subscribe to this thread, and I hope to see more work from you :)
August 18th, 2007, 11:23 AM
Diggin' your work, RK :teeth:
The only crit I can give ya -- watch facial proportions, like that pirate with the black dew-rag.. his right eye's a lot higher than his left eye :dur:
Otherwise, hot 8) Luv that robo-sock-monkey, btw! :)
September 3rd, 2007, 11:29 PM
made a new brush and gave a quick run with it
September 14th, 2007, 03:32 PM
lil monster doodle i did last night
isn't she just adorable
September 14th, 2007, 04:37 PM
I really like the way you draw you pics. You can definetly see your tuch in those works. Nice style of yours
December 20th, 2007, 07:08 PM
nice stuffs mah boi. Im really diggin the dude at the very top. The model for it is so clean. Wanna see him finished!
January 11th, 2008, 07:33 PM
I like the style, it's cute.
January 22nd, 2008, 02:44 AM
its been a while since i updated, so here are a couple to show that i do stuff sometimes
this guy is for this little story that is running through my head right now. the kid got cut from the script mid painting so i didnt finish him
and this goofy lookin bastard is me, i usually look homeless, but i had to dress up for the company cocktail party (called so cause at a game company party it is all cock and no tail) as you can tell, i was not happy to be in a suit
more to come, i just got colors on ds, and animanatee. so i will be posting lots of goofing off on those
January 22nd, 2008, 03:09 AM
Cant wait to color my animanatee...
You and your fat roll ogres. I wanna see him pushed even more as far as design. You got a cool looking character there he just needs to be fleshed out with accessories that describe his life and stuff (not literally fleshed out... hes got enough of that).
And the portrait... What can I say? Its good. I think I need to do one. I heard of this guy, Im not sure if he is very popular or not. But he did these portraits like every day for like a long time... I think he lurks on deviantART.
January 22nd, 2008, 06:34 PM
Thanks for passing by my sb!
I really like the self portrait, it seems to have much more consideration put into edges than some of your other work.
January 27th, 2008, 02:40 AM
hey chris, thanks for passing through. i have been modeling with that rounded edge a lot lately so i think that is helping out with the painting a lot.
here is a pass on the kid that is replacing the one in the fat guy pick.
just a quick shot at him, still flushing out the story and characters, not even sure what kind of style i want it to be in yet
January 27th, 2008, 07:24 AM
Cool work going here in this SB. I especially liked the self portrait on post #18. Has that crispness that some of your art lacks.
January 31st, 2008, 02:45 AM
here is a little something i did tonight. trying out a square brush and not going in for any sort of detailing. hope it worked alright, cause i like the painting method a lot, both in practice and in look. kind of lost flow around the chin though
January 31st, 2008, 05:19 AM
Hi RichKid, thanks for dropping by my sb.
Those characters are great!! It looks like you are working in.... animation? The style you got gives me such a feeling:P. The last square brush experiment is great, I would love to try one later on.
January 31st, 2008, 07:06 AM
Hey mate... thanks for dropping by my sb! :) i have nothing to crit here the pirate 3d is really cool!.. but i would love to see more rendered pictures :) but otherwise its great keep it up :)
February 2nd, 2008, 04:22 AM
hey guys, thanks for swinging through. yeah, so many people want to see more finished stuff, but honestly, i dont even know where i would begin on a "finished" piece. im a modeler, not an illustrator, so i just kind of paint to see what kind of things i might like to model. if something tickles my fancy, than i may model it. im not so big on rendering out paintings though.
i like how that last self portrait looks, so i think im gonna run with that style for a while.
ps, just got out of the new rambo flick...total chick flick
February 2nd, 2008, 04:47 AM
Hey, thanks for your comment! Very cool work here, I like your variety and sense of color. Would love to see more of your complete workups. Very nice sketchbook.
February 2nd, 2008, 06:06 AM
Hey thanks! I'll keep that in mind. :)
February 2nd, 2008, 04:43 PM
ps, just got out of the new rambo flick...total chick flick
February 2nd, 2008, 07:35 PM
nice style/work you have here allready :)
keep up the good work
February 2nd, 2008, 09:23 PM
nice stuff here. post #18 is really well done! i think you should try to push youself to try to get all of you paintings to that level no matter how serious you are about them, the more you do that, it easier it will become
February 4th, 2008, 08:36 PM
thanks for taking a look at my sketchbook rich. your character designs are pretty dang fun. and its cool to see them translated to 3d. i really like your choice of colors in many of your paints. keep it up, awesome stuff man.
February 7th, 2008, 03:24 PM
morning warm up off of a photo. his wife is next to him in the pic, i just havint finished her yet
February 8th, 2008, 03:15 AM
Very nice dude! I see your stuff getting crisper all the time, which hits the spot for me. I like these new ones with the square brush. Been on a little bit of a square brush kick myself.
You gotta post some of those mighty fine pencil sketches soon!!
February 8th, 2008, 03:59 PM
it is so rare that i get to use a pencil any more. but i have been diggin out the ol red animation pencils to doodle after work, so maybe i will scan in some of those and toss them up
thanks for poppin by eric, ill try and sign onto aim more, havnt talked in a while
February 27th, 2008, 12:23 PM
is anyone doing the dominance war this year? here is my concept so far
crits on this will make me happy
March 3rd, 2008, 02:32 AM
dominance war for concepts? how do we enter and what are the rules?
March 13th, 2008, 05:23 AM
ohhh, nate, you finally swang through for a visit. if you come back through, or anyone else is interested go to: www.dominancewar.com
hope you like it, did this one tonight all the way to where it is. im going to a burlesque birthday party. this is the girl who is turning the dirty thirty
March 13th, 2008, 01:43 PM
nice one, is that a tattoo on her arm? My only comment with it is her left eye is screaming for attention for two reasons. Its dead center in the composition, and it seems a lot flatter than the other eye. concepthugs
March 27th, 2008, 01:58 PM
here is a little something that i am doing for fun at the moment. makin a little clock face with everyone's hero on it. i think i am done with most of it, all that is left is the ring details and numbers. i might make the map in the background like a treasure map with some scribbles on it.
anyhoo, here she is
March 27th, 2008, 06:07 PM
nuthin but concept hugs for your cthulhu.
March 27th, 2008, 06:37 PM
Nice stuff really creative in here :P
mind droping me a crits or two lawl i suck at this kind of stuff
anywayz keep postting moaaaaarr :P
July 29th, 2008, 01:43 PM
inspired from all the good folks i met at con, i finally have the energy to wake up early again to get back in the habbit of painting before work to get the juices going. so this was the one i did this morning.
July 29th, 2008, 10:31 PM
ok, here is that same little guy touched up a bit after lunch
July 31st, 2008, 12:20 AM
im doing the creature of the week right now, just thought id toss up some wip action
July 31st, 2008, 07:03 PM
here is the final for that guy
i might make a couple more strokes of highlight on the grass, but thats about it
August 5th, 2008, 10:23 PM
ok, did this little thing last night. was talking to a buddy at work, maybe you've heard of him...SPYSHEEP
anyway, we were talking about blocking in blobby shapes and just picking out highlights to find your form. it kind of how i like to work and i did a little demo while we were talking. it was around an hourish for the whole thing
clouds are out of perspective but whatever for now
August 5th, 2008, 10:37 PM
Cool SB, I like your style. Very interesting creatures and creations. Id like to get better at speed painting concepts for 3d modeling like you did in some of your posts :)
August 8th, 2008, 02:46 AM
hey man, thanks for posting up. actually, i do a lot more modeling and come from more of that than any sort of painting. i actually got better at digital painting from my modeling techniques. i guess i am just thinking of everything as a final 3d piece, that is why everything is so planar.
here is my idea so far for this week's cow. its the red breasted quatro. it shaves away animals hair to find ticks and bugs to eat, then uses the shaved hair for its nesting materials :D
August 8th, 2008, 01:16 PM
here is a quick on from this morning, wasnt really thinking about anatomy or anything, just wanted something that faded from goopy to a harder surface.
August 8th, 2008, 01:21 PM
hahah the red breasted quatro. I friggin love it.
August 8th, 2008, 01:28 PM
i like your cartoonish style! your characters all seem to tell a story. my imagination starts flowing instantly - thank you!
August 10th, 2008, 06:25 PM
hey, thanks for commenting on my sketchbook man, i'd love to see your take on one of my silhouettes!
i haven't had time to do any illustrations lately... i've been so swamped with work, then my girlfriends family came into town and stayed with us, NOW im about to quit my job of 4 years and go freelance, so i've been busy with website and demo reel stuff.
i love your painting style, and your 3d stuff is great. that octopus piece is fucking awesome.
August 12th, 2008, 01:34 PM
complete2- hey man thanks for stopping by, yeah, i definetly want to try taking one of those and seeing what i can do with it, i was trying to do some of my own and just couldnt get them as lively as yours :(
Katinki- thank you for the kind words. im happy that it helps create a little spark in other people as well as me
here is my dino for today, i might keep working and add some textures and highlights, but then again i might just move on
August 14th, 2008, 04:16 AM
here is tonight's sketch. hope yall digs him. any crits comments or i would haves are always welcome
August 14th, 2008, 12:49 PM
RichKid, i really like the cute characters of yours. Is really nice. Keep them coming!
August 15th, 2008, 02:24 PM
went to siggraph yesterday, i love the look of animation production art so much. gave a shot at an environment this morning. im gonna give it a little bit of love still, but i think it fell together fairly well. composition help from my coworker made it flow a lot better
August 15th, 2008, 06:25 PM
Pretty cool creature designs and great lighting. How is siggraph? Ive heard a lot of great things about it.
August 16th, 2008, 04:15 AM
siggraph is alright, gdc or comic con are generally better. siggraph is more of a tech show
my buddy asked for a seahorse, so i made this
August 16th, 2008, 08:49 AM
Great stuff man, really great imagination with your creatures! Love the use of colours.
Thanks for commenting on my SB!
August 17th, 2008, 01:20 AM
Love the emotion and humor you've been able to pull of so far.
You might want to work on them enviros a bit though, maybe grab some ref images and get a routine-technique for yourself, and then build on that.
Looking good, I'll be visiting this thread again for sure! :)
September 3rd, 2008, 02:02 PM
lakka- thanks, i like to kind of goof off when im painting, if i catch myself laughing when painting it then i stick with it longer.
i did this one for a friend yesterday. she lost her dog recently
September 4th, 2008, 02:47 AM
nice stuff u have,do drop on mine :)
September 8th, 2008, 01:04 PM
wierd random stuff listed to me by a friend...
October 7th, 2008, 04:33 PM
here is a little cave man i doodled the other day, did the painting on my lunch break today. probably do more on it tonight or in the morning
October 8th, 2008, 12:35 PM
here is an updated version of the last guy "KROG THE PATH SWEEPER"
October 13th, 2008, 04:39 PM
ok, so if im gonna have a caveman than there will have to be someone for him to hunt/be hunted by. so what better than a scrawny little dino always after a chubby caveman meal.
hope you enjoy, still kicking around ideas for the dino for a while, so feel free to toss in ideas
October 13th, 2008, 04:52 PM
YES YES YES! I love how you go from loose and ideational to sharp and very well rendered! KEEP doing that, and study hard! This is looking so good:D
October 15th, 2008, 12:20 AM
The G-myster, what up? yeah, no use in calling me when you make it to San Diego, yep. I am now living In Utah. Got me a Job and EA salt lake. but feel free to call if you end up in Utah for some bizarre reason.
I am loving the art, yo! its been a while and quite a lot of updates since i have visited this SB. are you using Painter? looks an awful lot like painter. and one more question do you post your 3d pieces somewhere?
keep poppin em out.
October 16th, 2008, 04:20 AM
dig'n the dino! Keep 'em comin!
October 16th, 2008, 08:06 AM
haha the caveman is great. good call on reworking the face, looks much better now. so looking forward on the finished one. and the dino is awesome.
October 21st, 2008, 05:35 PM
ace, good to hear you got a job man.
eric, i need to sign on to aim, its been a while since we hung out
mono and mischievious, thanks for the kind words
here is what i did last night. i think i work better when people are telling me random stuff to draw as i do it
October 21st, 2008, 09:33 PM
Really likeing your last three pieces, great amount of character in them.
October 26th, 2008, 08:48 PM
early wip of my roommate's dog
November 5th, 2008, 10:21 PM
been doing a lot of pencil sketches lately so havnt had any digi stuff to post. here is this morning's doodle
November 30th, 2008, 11:41 PM
jammed out on this guy today. no real purpose other than getting something out
December 1st, 2008, 01:02 AM
man, you got wicked skills! very cool style you've got and your lighting and shading abilities blow me away. rock on dude!
December 1st, 2008, 01:21 AM
Indeed you have some nice rendering skills, very nce, subtle values.
I think you just need to work a tad on texture, making rock look hard, wet areas look like wet etceteraetcetera.
But you definately have the ability to make forms look good, almost very 3D.
Keep it up!
December 5th, 2008, 04:24 AM
peetaer- thank man, thanks for the kind words
lakka- i usually think of my stuff as a concept for a model, so thanks for the 3d comment. and with that i usually do more of the texture difference in the model, but it is something that i would really like to start putting time into, i just always end up putting it off till the end, then i end up moving on, hehe
here is a little doodle i have going for the super stylized challenge this month
December 5th, 2008, 11:21 PM
haha, ok, this guy has been really fun, i think this is as far as im going to take this concept though, i might do an illustration of him under a bridge or something... i dont know
December 5th, 2008, 11:26 PM
oh yeah, one other quick question for those who pass through, HOW DO I CHANGE THE THUMBNAIL FOR MY SKETCHBOOK. im sure it is posted somewhere...but i havnt seen it. if anyone knows, mad love to whoever points me in the right direction.
December 10th, 2008, 05:06 AM
here is a little jam session from tonight. i have been doing a lot of uber generic game looking characters lately, just for shits and giggles. here is the start of a new one
December 11th, 2008, 01:54 AM
ok, here is stage 2 in huge generic fantasy hero drawing. barbi dress up time. crits and comments are not only welcome, but encouraged...and sometimes begged for
December 12th, 2008, 05:03 AM
IS ANYBODY OUT THEEEEERE. hehe, here is an update on my uber generic warrior. love it, hate it, shit, just drop your name so i know somebody passed through
December 12th, 2008, 02:08 PM
Hey ..i like your rendering style..
makes me remind those old fairy tale hardbound illustrations...
cool colouring and the sense is very elvish...
i liked the last one...the guy with those inverted walrus tusks..
keep it up...
do walk into my sketchbook...
i've got something interesting for you in the beginning pages...and some new speedies lately too
December 12th, 2008, 02:26 PM
haha the warrior is pretty sweet. feels like he needs shoulder pads...or maybe just one on the shoulder thats closest.
December 13th, 2008, 04:33 PM
animo-thanks for the comments, the little troll guy made me giggle a lot as i was painting him.
gshaw, yeah, i am actually working on some shoulder piece or armor for that close arm. i will post up some of the ideas im kicking around once i have them kind of roughed in.
thanks for swinging through guys
December 22nd, 2008, 01:45 AM
i am still workin on super buff dude every now and then. for now i had to sit and do some stuff for christmas, here are my little cousins i painted up
January 16th, 2009, 03:20 PM
this guy was in my head when i woke up this morning. i think i might stylize him a bit more and model him out for some practice
January 19th, 2009, 02:47 PM
here is a little update on the pillbot, i liked him so i continued on. im going to go in on the arms and legs and make them a bit more cartoony and flowy. maybe do a shot from the back, or model it out, then paint over on the back to figure it out. also going to bring in some influences from the krieger series to get some fun shapes introduced in the body
January 19th, 2009, 03:11 PM
Your characters are simply charming! I really love your environments too though, especially like the forested area one in post 57 - I hope to see more like that too :)
Keep up the great work!
January 19th, 2009, 03:57 PM
that pillbot is hilarious :) looks well designed too..
I want to see more studies on skin tone. that muscle man you did with a rendered ball next to him.. those colors just aren't effective enough. just my opinion :)
January 19th, 2009, 04:08 PM
heh...funny..and cool stuff
January 19th, 2009, 09:38 PM
hey guys, thanks for posting up. its rare i get people who say anything on here.
eparts- im still out on the skin. i have some newer ones that i havnt posted, but i wanted to keep it kind of chalky and pale. ive been flipping through paul bonner's work a lot and that is what influenced the tones i used. but in an ordinary situation i am totally with you there. and i might even still change what is there a bit.
thanks again for posting peeps, i will have some more updates on the pill bot tonight, and maybe toss some of the newer iterations i had done to the warrior dude
January 19th, 2009, 09:44 PM
Good skill here man, the toony style is a breath of fresh air.
January 19th, 2009, 09:45 PM
Wonderfull work, great style!
keep on sharing,
January 19th, 2009, 10:26 PM
that's an awesome little robot
the ANGRY filipino
January 19th, 2009, 10:41 PM
Hey Richkid, you have a wonderful Sb! The main thing that makes me drool when looking at your pieces is that you capture depth/weight so well with just a few strokes...awesome!
January 20th, 2009, 03:28 AM
crazy, getting tons of hits all of the sudden. thanks everyone for the kind words, keeps me going.
ok, here is where our little robo buddy is at the moment. as of now i am not really feeling the guns, i want to keep them fairly classic 50 cal but also want to stylize them up a bit, so a lil research then touch those up.
and yes...that is a stegasaurus walking through the back ground :\
January 20th, 2009, 03:46 AM
That bot turned out real nice! Very cool stuff.
January 20th, 2009, 05:17 AM
love the latest robo :) Looks awesome
January 20th, 2009, 02:22 PM
hey guys, thanks for the love. i started on the model for it last night, ill post up some of the progress tonight or later in the week.
thanks for stopping by, here is a little doodle i did a while back but never posted.
February 17th, 2009, 02:27 AM
ok, i just started a class at the concept design academy just to kind of get a little better and brush up on some techniques. its a creature design class so it is pretty fun. we are starting with redesigning some movie monsters, i did pumpkin head. we did 4 thumbs the first week, and this week we are taking 3 of those into a black and white render, here is my first one
February 17th, 2009, 04:20 AM
cool sb really like the toon style you have
keep em coming dude =)
February 17th, 2009, 06:18 AM
Really cool stuff here. I especially like that robot a couple a posts ago. Maybe you could introduce some more defined highlights in your work. It would give more contrast and 3d feel to your paintings. Probably... Will be coming back once you update.
February 17th, 2009, 07:41 AM
haha, nice robot on #99, but his right foot is kinda weird
February 17th, 2009, 11:41 AM
something is going into my eyes, is you... is your sketch and some interest character make my eyes more big. keep up to post more. thanks...
my sketch (http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=126380)
February 28th, 2009, 01:43 AM
here is a little something different from my usual cartoony stuff. these are this weeks homework from my creature design class
February 28th, 2009, 04:48 AM
wow...last images is really realistic! I forgot to give five stars before. Fix ;)
February 28th, 2009, 08:08 PM
Im lovin those latest updates. the middle monster is friggin awesome. Hows life? what have u been up 2 lately?
March 2nd, 2009, 02:41 PM
WES, DUDE!! hey man, good to see you are still trolling around these parts.
verherin- thank you very much. yeah, this creature design class im in is really pushing more movie stuff rather than games so it is kicking up my realism work.
guan-...i dont know what you just said but thank you?
flamable-yeah, the feet on there are way out of whack. thats what happens when you just render a doodle. he was meant for 3d anyway, and i have changed the hands and feet from what you see in the painting. ill post some 3d soon maybe
place-i dont know, im someone who just doesnt use highlights much unless something is wet or exposed metal. i like the really flat look of paul bonner and some of phil hale's stuff.
everyone else, thank you very much. ill post up some new work soon
March 16th, 2009, 04:50 PM
ok, this idea was floating around in my head on the train coming home last night. these little centaur lookin dudes that hunt in packs... raptor style. so one takes a demon or robot head on keeping the focus...or agro for all you nerds out there. meanwhile the other 2 come from the sides hitting high and low. each of them will have weapons and armor to show visually thier role in the scenario. bait guy will be brighter colored to draw attention and have more armor since he will be fucked if the other 2 fall asleep or something. the one that hits high will be more bladed weapons and faster looking, while the low will be heavier and more blunt object to crush legs
thoughts...ideas...crude uses of the word gay all accepted.
March 25th, 2009, 02:58 AM
here is what that ugly little blob in the last post has evolved into.
this is my dom war concept so far. 2 of these creatures bouncing around shadows like nightcrawler assasinating peeps
please, any crits and commments are helpful
March 26th, 2009, 02:28 AM
here are some weapon ideas for the dude above. still goofing around though.
anything on this would be helpful...guys...you out there... :(
ill just bug you all with it at the workshop this weekend
April 1st, 2009, 02:06 PM
oh schnap! im looking at your sketchboook!
April 3rd, 2009, 12:43 AM
OH SNAPPLE!! dawn is in the hizzouse. hey, it was awesome hanging out at the workshop. when my roomy gets back from spain i will figure out when we are hitting vagas and give you a HOLLA.
April 3rd, 2009, 08:40 AM
losa! great to kick it in dallas with you :)
I prefer the meathook shape, as it echoes the posture/shape of the creature. I would like the scimitar if you made the curve more like the meathook shape. Right now it feels more or less like a machete. This is a personal beef, but I think u should look at animals' hind legs [cats, dogs, goats, whatever] to get some better looking legs [function and posture]
April 4th, 2009, 12:27 AM
well you can keep you pet cow out of here. actually the legs are based off of a kangaroo rat, he is meant to be very agile and springy...not that it matters now though...i have scrapped him all together
here is the new guy. he is going to be teamed up with or summoned by a small girl. so he is the tank and she is the mage.

crits on the new guy would be awesome peoples

This is a very good sketchbook. I enjoyed looking over your work. Still want to learn to do digitals so easy as you do, like for example for that robot, just to wake up, and to draw what I have just dreamed, or what I had in my head. Great talent.
