i've been wanting to add a zipatone texture to my ink and digital works.

in the most basic terms, zipatone is the 'halftone' dot-matrix pattern texture used to define 'shaded' areas.

i got inspired by matthew woodson (http://www.ghostco.org/)'s work and wanted to try it out on some of my pictures. zipatone is the name of the product of the sheets of the dot-pattern in which comic artists have used for a great deal of time.

anyway after looking into it a bit i came under the impression that the sheets are no longer carried, as digital rendering of the dot-pattern is the new norm to achieve the look. which this is fine by me, as i'm cheap and rescourceful enough that i'd like to create my own halftone patterns.

so does anyone have any advice for how to create their own halftone patterns? Photoshop has a few junky filters which give a bastard version of the affect, but either i'm not utilizing the filter right, or its a poor method to achieve the look.

thanks in advance

i either just use real screentone and cut and paste it on the drawing itself, or i scan some screentone and put it on a layer - masking it out where i dont need it. no real experience yet with the photoshop filter but i'm sure if you find the right settings it's perfectly fine.

I made a tutorial for How to make Screetone Stamp Pattern for Photoshop awhile ago. You can try this method. :bashful:
