Hey guys. I'm looking to purchase a cintiq, and wondering where I can purchase one online for a reasonable price? I know they are quite expensive, and I'm not purchasing it with the misconception that it will somehow improve my art - I know it won't. I just want one, and have saved enough money to buy one, plus the company I work for is flipping part of the bill for it.

So anyway, where might I be able to find one for a decent price? New, or used doesn't matter as long as if it's used, the webstore is a credible place that isn't going to send me one with like 900 dead pixels.

Thanks guys, looking forward to some input. So far the cheapest I've found by just googling around is like $2,400-ish.

You're not going find anything cheap and I still wouldn't trust a second hand purchase of something that delicate and expensive.

If you have the money by all means buy a new one.

But I still think that you could spend that money into something more useful at the moment, or even save it for later.

I got mine from www.coolgraphicstuff.com , paid around 2450 plus shipping- was the cheapest I could find in a search of about 2 months.
Dont buy second hand, They are not like your regular Wacom tablet- they are more sensitive and a lot more delicate/prone to damage. You need to get the freight insurance and the warranty. If you scratch the display it will cost around 1000 dollars plus shipping & handling to replace.
You are going to love it, its well worth the money.

PS: I bought mine cause I wanted one, not because it would improve my skills, but I gotta tell you that it definitely improves your speed. I work with a Intous 2 at work and with my Cintiq at home and I can tell the difference.

Thanks for the information guys. I guess second hand is out of the question then, I didn't realize they would be *that* much more prone to damage, although it makes sense since it's a huge interactive monitor basically.

I'm kind of considering evildisco's advice about holding off on it, and putting the money elsewhere. I can imagine feeling good about using that money to pay for further education, and never regretting it, but at the same time I have my list of reasons to buy one that more-than-likely doesn't justify spending that kind of cash on a new cintiq.

Moral dilemma.

Oh well, guess I will decide when the time comes. Thanks evil disco for solidifying what I already expected, now I know there is no need to spend days, or weeks searching the net for a cheap cintiq, and that I need to avoid the temptation of buying second hand.

Thanks jlalfaro for letting me know that the difference is in fact noticeable. I know it'd be easier to be putting pen directly to screen, it would feel much more natural I think.

Anyone elses opinion would be helpful, so feel free to pitch in.

Now since you mentioned an intuos 2, i'm wondering what the main differences are between an intuos 2 and 3, maybe if the price is reasonably lower I will just buy a larger format intuos 2, since it's getting kind of frusterating to work on my itsy bitsy 4x5 inch intuos3.

While this topic was brought up I have a question. Is it worth it to get the 6D pen for my intuos 3?
