Wow, already that time again...
ART OUT LOUD 5!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v704/DSillustration/aol5_front_low.jpg
Hard to believe that what started out as an improv painting jam turned into this. This will be our 5th event, and hopefully the best yet.
This demo will focus exclusively on COMIC ART.
Artists Klaus Janson, Paolo Rivera, and Mike Oeming will be demonstrating their techniques simultaneously, in front of a live audience.
They will focus on drawing, painting, and inking, as well as the "in and outs" of the comic industry.
As if that wasn't enough, attendees will have a chance to see if they've got what it takes to make it is this business.
Marvel Comics, and DC Comics will both be in attendance accepting portfolios for submission and review!
*Please note, this review is for attendees ONLY and is not open to the public*
The event is: SATURDAY, JUNE 30TH 12-4PM
To be held at: The Society of Illustrators, NYC, 128 E.63rd ST.
Seating is limited, and tickets will be sold on a first come - first serve basis.
All previous Art Out Louds have sold out, so I implore you buy your tickets early.
Once they are gone, there is nothing I can do.
All you have to do is call the Society of Illustrators at 212.838.2560,
or mail/fax the form below to the Society:

As usual, these events are focused toward students, and the price reflects it.
Just $25 for students with a valid school I.D.
All other non-members of the Society are $35 each.
We hope to see you there!

About The Artists:
KLAUS JANSON:
Klaus has been working in comics for over 30 years, most notably on Daredevil and Batman:The Dark Knight Returns.
Klaus has literally written the book on how to draw comics. His DC guides to Penciling/Inking are staples in the industry.
Currently a teacher a the School of Visual Arts, Klaus is sure to be as informative as they get!

*****
PAOLO RIVERA:
He may be young, but Paolo has no shortage of talent.
Best know for his Mythos series for Marvel comics, Paolo does what few other artists can.
Working in tradition mediums such as gouache and oils, he paints entire issues front to back.
His knack for realism, and knowledge of color theory is enough to make the most seasoned of pros jealous!

*****
MIKE OEMING:
Best know for POWERS, Mike is one of the few comic artists whose work goes beyond the drawing table.
Not only has his art graced the pages of comics such as Judge Dredd and B.P.R.D., but he also has written issues of Thor, Ares, and Red Sonja.
His unique style of art and storytelling are beautifully realized in his current creator-owned comic Cross Bronx.
A personal favorite, Mike is sure to please the crowd.

Thanks to Irene and Dan for making this happen, and of course the great artists, it was a real treat and great to meet everyone and new people again! (huh?)
I mostly hung around Paolo Rivera's easel as he propagated for the virtues of Arcylagouache and kindly answered my questions. He was a great guy, and even brought his little sculpts he does to check lighting and consistency.
Cant wait for the next one! (fingers crossed)
Cheers Tim

Oh man... WHAT a GREAT time. Tim, nice pics man, great meeting you. Yea, most of my pics are one sided as well, but hell... how can you pull yourself away from Paolo's easel (masonite). Great guy, and very generous with his magic (it's actually not a brush, it's just a furry wand). No pun intended Mike Oeming :P So here's my contribution to the pics

Ha! I see Scott in checkered shirt... I didn't see his photo for so long... How come you didn't take any photo of Tiffany, Arkady? I think she deserved something for carrying those heavy tables back and forward... :) nice to see familiar faces.. although I recognize only three people :). Thanks for posting photos... always a treat to see the event in pictures.
OMG, Scott, is it you watching the thread? How are you doing? :).

I'm so envious, having those three in the same room must have made so much energy. I got to meet Rivera at the NYC Comic Con, and he was just crankin'! It was really cool watching him work on pin-ups, I can only imagine the sequentials. Thanks for sharing the photos guys, simply amazing!
