View Full Version : EOW #56 Floating Bazaar
May 29th, 2007, 10:11 AM
EOW# 56 Floating Bazaar
The hardest thing about the Peshnakhan Bazaar is getting there. But once you are there so is everything else. The corners of the world are for sale in splashes of color. The maze of the moveable streets is a barely traversable tangle. Music pours from all side And tellers of tales sell fantastic stories of truth, as the vendors shout for your attention in colourful phrases. “Buy my magic powder”, “ buy my potion of love”. Unlike many such markets, in this one you have to be careful, the magic just might work…..
This is a floating Bazaar, just how it is floating is up to you, Air, water, koolaid….. Must include:
2. Some means of transporting goods to the market
I will accept any medium.
Due June 7,
Specific brief NO Description REQUIRED

lol im the first to post..jaj how brave
heres my wip, crit away
The Floating bazaar, the biggest most massive magic broomstick evermade
lol i like the composition of the second, and the idea of having the hole market floating on a giant broomstick, but i also like the cloudy blue sky and the baloons of the first, wich direction should i follow??
A mix between the two concepts, it needs a series of stuff like more dramatic ligthing, but you guys crit away..lol ill be taking the notes
May 29th, 2007, 11:22 AM
Okay, now that vacation is over I may have time to participate. . .
May 29th, 2007, 12:08 PM
Changed concepts at the last minute, so I doubt I'll get time to finish it. At first I was purposely avoiding balloons, but then I searched for bazaar photos on Flickr and came across one that showed dozens of beautiful globe lamps hanging from the ceiling; I got hooked on my new concept, and I couldn't let it go.
I decided that each major nation of the world this bazaar takes place in annually sends a massive balloon filled with sellers and patrons into the sky, where it is retrieved by waiting ships and docked to a floating city that provides lodging for the many shoppers.
Each night the balloons are un-linked and each one is pulled into one of the city's massive docks; people can enter and leave the balloon at will, and return to it in the morning.
The bright colors make it easy for shoppers to identify the balloon they came from, so that everyone can make it home safely.
May 29th, 2007, 12:57 PM
I'll try my best to find time for this...
May 29th, 2007, 01:25 PM
brilliant topic :)
May 29th, 2007, 02:45 PM
Awesome concept, I'm so taking part of this
May 29th, 2007, 03:19 PM
AWESOME topic, im playing FFXII atm so.. fits right in..
hope i have time to enter... got some stuff that needs finishing first..
May 29th, 2007, 04:18 PM
*ponders a possible entry* I rally wanted to do last weeks but alas I could not, this one also strikes my fancy though....
Seedling - Thats funny
Joey -b - You're making everybody look bad lol j/k I commend you that you have been able to do so many topics each week of various things, its really helped jump you stuff to the next level, keep it up
May 29th, 2007, 05:47 PM
Oh, this is.. a beautiful topic.. Beautiful! :$
Allejjo: YO U ARE SO BRAVE, haha! Hey looking neato so far man. What exactly is the spirally thing in the middle? It looks like a waterslide that leads to the bottom of the floating bazaar, to THEIR DEATH!
May 29th, 2007, 06:20 PM
JAja! ok well im tryingtodepicta main structure in the middle with a swirly street that goes all the way, but as i look at it i see it aint working cause it woul have to be huge to be seen that big from the distance we are at. what i want to ask you guys is..should i work on an other closer view of the city??, wich camera views he`depict the enviroment better???
im thinking of painting just half of it, that way the composition will demand much detail, but if i do this i migth loose their floating gear.aw darn i think this means im going back to the paper
May 29th, 2007, 06:36 PM
Any crit would be awesome :D
May 29th, 2007, 08:32 PM
sry to say I couldnt finish this one. Had too much this week including my daughters birthday, working on the CHOW this week, and playing with PAINTER X!! I'll give it a go next week. This one is great! gonna b a tough competition this week!
well, here's my WIP.
I liked it for awhile but for some reason it seems to have really lost its character.
ANY words of advice much appreciated. I feel I need to bring this picture back from the dead
Its a floating bazaar on a lava lake/river. kinda like the river Styx
May 30th, 2007, 01:14 AM
WIP! Floating bazaar, complete with sky dock, dragon roost, and sails! I know there are some serious perspective problems, but crits are mucho appreciendo!
sorry for link, having image problems :[
May 30th, 2007, 02:10 AM
Shyt I missed the deadline of the last one. I went to sleep early because I wanted to wake up early morning to finish painting, but woke up 5 minutes before deadline, weaksauce! But its all good. I am definitely in! XD
May 30th, 2007, 02:59 AM
alright...gonna make this my first EOW...really cool topic :)
Alejjo: hey man I'm liking the first one better (probably cuz the purple-ish hues on the second wip might be a bit too much) altho the second idea is pretty neat too if better executed, hope to see it finished :)
Mince Pockets: try using imageshack instead :) i like what u have so far, it should look good if u tighten up on the perspective like u said and also make the canvas bigger would make the scene look more epic and grand in my opinion :)
May 30th, 2007, 03:48 AM
love that! i'll try to paint some stuff
May 30th, 2007, 08:25 AM
A couple of sketches to think through some ideas, not sure whether to go with water or airborne yet.....
The Peshnakhan Bazaar, a mass of lost vessels and floating wreckage that forms the most diverse market place in the world. Its watery streets constantly changed by tides and the whims of its mercantile rulers. One of the most skilled, if overlooked, roles in this mass of humanity is that of the water stevedores who are relied on to honestly and safely ferry goods form the markets to the vessels of buyers who wait and the bazaar’s edge.
May 30th, 2007, 10:22 AM
Went for the balloon route, too.:skull:
May 30th, 2007, 01:18 PM
Here is now my first w.i.p., Imagine this bazzar being a city itself, massive in size. Went with act apalled's suggestion for the thumbs I ill change it back to a dutch tilt later hehe.
May 30th, 2007, 04:52 PM
JoeSolo your thums are mad cool, if u dont mind me saying dicart the first thumb, the dramatisim in the other three are far more better, now withing those three i would choose beetwin the 3rd and forth because this two depict the bazaar as this massive but seemingly peacefull floating city.
my personal pic would have to go to the fourth, the view and the sense of giantness in the baloom are just wonderfull
Paperx Thnx man no need to worry, this sletches are far from done, i just rush to get my ideas down and then work on them as i said i love the cloudy sky but also de idea of the broomsticks,,so im looking for a way to mix both, and its also better cause let face it a ballon big enough to hold the bazaar should have to be titanic
thanks for the follow up, and hope to see yours around here too
May 30th, 2007, 06:52 PM
JoeSolo: I think overall the strongest of those four thumbnails is the second one. I looked at them and the first one that jumped out and kept me engaged and interested was that one. Overall it has a solid composition and the values are already fairly well balanced with values and shape types. I would say go with that one, I see good things.
May 31st, 2007, 12:14 AM
This is a floating bazaar that hovers between mountains to reach small towns.
It never touches the ground and the only way to visit it is using a catapult. Only the really skillful deserve to buy the valuable items sold there.
May 31st, 2007, 12:38 AM
Baltasar Ali jajajajaj Catapulting, the bazaar most have a really nasty wall, with the remains of those who failed..hilarious
May 31st, 2007, 01:21 AM
Wow, Im not surprized that I wasn't the only one to choose balloons. Very enjoyable, not something I would choose to draw normally.
The day at the bazaar is just getting started. Everyone is getting set-up and connected.
May 31st, 2007, 01:29 AM
Baltasar Ali, the catapult idea is hilarious. I like the "through-the-mountains" perspective too.
zyphryus, the close-up perspective is great! Really captures the sense of colour, excitement ...and peril of the floating bazaar IMO. I love the two dangling shoppers/merchants!
May 31st, 2007, 06:23 AM
Ok, I think I'm done?
May 31st, 2007, 07:22 AM
Yay, my first EOW! :) Crit it to pieces!
May 31st, 2007, 10:59 AM
May 31st, 2007, 01:59 PM
Goran - I like the 'cobbled together' style yours, looks like it is slowly growing outward. Are you putting colour in afterward, interested to see how is comes out around all the little details. It almost seems complete just as sepia details.
Idiot Apathy - I enjoy the feeling of light in the image.
zyphryus - a very cheery scene, it occupies the space well. Are you going to include customers or a method of browsing the 'stalls' - I understand that it is setting up but I wondered whether you were going to include any hints.
hallo - captures the market/bazaar feeling well. I like the feeling of scale and height.
WIP Added (above), going for water scene, trying for a slightly claustrophobic and busy feel for the bazaar and maybe some oddness to bring out the magical aspect of the brief. Think that it will be a night scene so I can add a load of colour from lanterns etc. and interesting goods.
Critique most welcome
May 31st, 2007, 02:55 PM
I think idiot Apathy hit the nail on the head there.
May 31st, 2007, 03:29 PM
D-Holme - you said
Are you going to include customers or a method of browsing the 'stalls' - I understand that it is setting up but I wondered whether you were going to include any hints.
Well, this idea got my imagination going for sure - I think there might be more rope ladders and swings and something like the rope monkey-bars in the back. of course, coming to this market is 'at your own risk' but Im sure there would be some method of safety nets to provide some protection, or perhaps patrons might have to purchase or loan a parashoot. :)
May 31st, 2007, 04:48 PM
Very good looking topic, im working on it...i hope finish on time.
I like very idiot apathy´s one. Also i check your word and man....no words, it seems you work hard, youre landscape are impressive, it reminds me Caspar Friedrich job...is very inspiring your job, also i appreciate very much the possibility to download yor PSD.
May 31st, 2007, 05:49 PM
Spend an evening browsing the web for some inspiration after which I couldn't stop myself from grabbing the wacom pen and start doodling around. Here's the result after about an hour of work. Rather different than what I normally do, but I'm pleased with it (atm :P) Needs some more work, texturing and stuff. I think I'll add a flying sailboat full of merchandise or something.
Edit: Changed a couple of things. Played around with some home-made brushes which I actually never really did before :P Not sure about the bright green in the foreground, probably a bit too much saturated. I added some details to the bazaar on top of the rock as well as the rock itself. It floats a bit more now I think. Lots of things to do still.
Edit the edit: Removed this WIP and posted the final (sort of final at least) :P
Now back to my other stuff which I should have done instead :P , will give some crits laters I think.
June 1st, 2007, 01:02 AM
Hello all! I thought I would try to expand my artistic scope and do an environment.
Here's the WIP. I'm showing a horizon silhouette with a detail pic above it (at the moment I think it looks to close). Is this a voilation of the rules in any way? Please let me know. Crits please!
The basic premise is as follows;
A 100 years or so ago, a meteor landed on this planet, well kind'a. The magnetic properties of this space rock actually repels the rock of the planet it found. So, for a while it wondered this world until it cornered itself in some mountain peaks and thus remains there forever.
Eventually, merchants found this anomally to be the perfect place for a well fortified marketplace to sell only the best wears like fabrics and potions.
The market is unique due to the fact that anything made of metal cannot go near this meteor. The magnetic push depends solely on the density of the metal. Pure iron-ore would be shot into the statosphere while lead glass would hover a foot off the surface.
So, with this knowledge, the merchants divised ways of using this 'push' to construct tents without polls, hovering carts that move depending on counter-pushes, muti-level elevators from the surface, etc.
June 1st, 2007, 09:56 AM
My self: Well ive got lots to learn from you guys yet!
Sung-jae Kim youre sacrificing the detail in the design for that big mass Ander the city, in orther to be visible you had to raise really tall buildings, its more a floating city than a bazaar.
D- Holme nice choice going for the floating one, the final version will be very good, my advice to you is to choose a moody atmosphere.
Hallo Lovely colors and perspective, nice choice bluring the color dots u had going for the ground
Joesolo One of the best so far, love the atmosphere, lighting..fantastic.. wish I could speedpaint like that.
Baltasar Ali. Funniest concept around…keep it up
Zyphryus I like the colors, let see how it turn out
Idiot Apathy mann I do something fast and I looks unfinished and messy, you guys do this stuff and It resembles real life painting…nice lighting and textures, although it looks lieka regular Bazaar not much a floating going on there
Saera Watch out for the perspective
Goran..This one is good, if you ask me, the winner. Nothing that woul make any sense to crit here, perhaps adding more ships to add some life and movement to the market. keep up the rendering, this peace has a lot of promes
Yoitisi niiiiice, if those red signs are light up…WOOOw this one is off to a good start my advice to you is to make it float cause right now it looks like mounted on the structure that reaches the ground..rather than that NADA keep it up.
Skektec Nice concept..lets see that rendering pop
June 1st, 2007, 10:27 AM
wow cool topic not sure if ill be able to enter this one :( so far hallo's got my vote ;) nice
June 1st, 2007, 07:10 PM
I hope I have time to do my 1st EOW....I really need to work on my environments....sweet stuff already...loving:
-D-Holmes:Last one (both compositionaly...and with that splash of colour)
-Halo: Cool perspective/pastely feel
-Joesolo:Nice sketches man
-Goran:That looks crazy complicated-and very cool
-Yoitisi:Those colours are awsome
June 1st, 2007, 11:54 PM
"Any enchantment can get a rug off the ground... lifting the Peshnakhan Bazaar takes a Djinn." - Ishak Pasha, patron
"Djinn's are vile, intelligent creatures, spending lifetimes thinking up ways to outsmart us. This is the reason for the Bazaar lasting only three days. It takes the rest of the year to phrase the wish." - Nizamuddin Ahmed Pasha, Grand Vizier
edit - architecture, lighting, crop, etc.
June 2nd, 2007, 12:51 AM
June 2nd, 2007, 01:55 AM
aaarrrghh, computer crashed and like an idiot I hadn't saved at all. I was only maybe an hour into it but still, frustrating. Oh well, back to the drawing board.
June 2nd, 2007, 02:33 AM
Alejjo: I know there's something wrong with it, but I dont know how to fix it. :teeth: It's my first enviroment that's not out of a photo or real life. :) I tried fixing it myself but it just turned out worse. :D
I really like the colours of the first you submitted.. But I don't quite understand the big red balloon in the corner - is it another platform or transportation?
Sung-jae Kim: Very nice textures! I think the buildings could use a bit more contrast.. ?
D-Holme: I like the composition. Keep working! :)
Hallo: Lovely colours. Looking good.
JoeSolo: Seems to be a quite spooky town at the moment. :teeth:
Baltasar_Ali: Hilarious idea with the catapults! The background could use a few different textures; right now it looks the same.
Zyphryus: The figure in the background holding on for dear life is great.. Are they all wearing parachutes? Great idea!
Idiot Apathy: Lovely mood, composition, colours and textures. Looks complete. :)
Goran: Bring on the colours!
Yoitisi: How is it flying? Looks like it's connected to the ground right now. The clouds look so alive.
skekTec: Quite interesting, but I think it looks too close as well. Show us more. :)
Corrick: Awesome idea with the flying carpets. Very crooked perspective, but it works well.
June 2nd, 2007, 06:15 AM
I've not done an Env of the week before so be gentle :)
My concept that time permiting I hope to expand into a more finished piece...
June 2nd, 2007, 09:07 AM
heya all :)
iv neva done an eow before so i thought i might join in.
my favs so far are
Idiot Apathy nice piece.. i really like the colours n the texture.
Corrick cool image.. i like the composition n the carpets r made!
i did some rndm sketches as well
June 2nd, 2007, 10:02 AM
Sung-jae Kim: Like the lighting & colors, also nice rendition of the rocky surface. Reminds me more of a city rather than a bazaar, though.
D-Holme: Lovely sketches, hope to see one of the concepts finished.
JoeSolo: Great gritty style.
zyphryus: Very cool idea. Guess that's what they call 'risky business'.
idiot apathy: Simply awesome. And sad.
saera: Welcome to the EOW! Quite surreal piece - are these pyramids or tents?
goran: Really nice. Both things I like have been already mentioned: The sepia + the cluttered, 'growing' appearance.
yoitisi: Dig the bold style. The bazaar could do with some variation, perhaps?
skekTec: Looks interesting, keep it up.
Corrick: That's one hell of piece. My favorite.
Vanvalen: Really, really cool thumb.
Adi.: Promising! Like the second one best.
Thanks to everyone for the comments on my humble WIP (Also updated, above :wip:).
June 2nd, 2007, 11:31 AM
Hallo: Thanks! :) They're pyramids. I'll see about adding a hint of bricks to them. :teeth:
Updated above post with a new perspective.. Hope this is better.
June 3rd, 2007, 10:20 AM
not sure how much furthur Im going to take this....I've learnt a few cool things along the way....but it isnt as chaotic and detailed as I'd have liked it to be...time and work have gotten partly in the way. If anyone had any advice I'd welcome it:)
June 3rd, 2007, 02:24 PM
Some wonderful things get created on this website. I do nto think I am up to the standards, but I still wish to enter. I will possibly post all my work in this post.
Great stuff up to now! I will be sure to look at each one seperately.
June 3rd, 2007, 08:47 PM
hi! Im chaos
I need no introduction!
June 3rd, 2007, 09:46 PM
Cool concepts. Has anyone here seen the game Rise of Legends (http://www.riseoflegends.com/)? It's a strategy game and one of the factions you can play are the Arabian Nights-inspired Alin, who have floating marketplaces (http://rol.heavengames.com/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=rol-concept-art&id=alim_merchant_b). :)
June 4th, 2007, 04:59 AM
I've not done an Env of the week before so be gentle :)
My concept that time permiting I hope to expand into a more finished piece...
Could you make it 800x800 pixels so that I can look at it closer? Looks like a solid entry!
June 4th, 2007, 11:03 AM
Thanks for the comments everyone. Here's the final..for now. There are still some things to add, but I am not sure I can spend more time on it than I already did, so here it is:
Edit: This is my final :)
June 4th, 2007, 01:08 PM
June 4th, 2007, 01:19 PM
Yoitisi, I am simply dazzled by your lighting. Very nice. There's an odd "reverse layering" going on with your clouds, but I'm not sure how they layer in the first place. It's hard to pinpoint the source of the illumination. Not that it detracts of course, it's still very much awesome.
robmorfin, sexy... can you ski on it too?
June 4th, 2007, 01:56 PM
I was thinking rolercoasters!
June 4th, 2007, 04:37 PM
Corrick: Thanks for the comment :). The clouds might look a little odd, but I tried using them more as a composition asset than as real clouds. In the initial drawing they were very dark around the floating rock which it dissapear into the background a bit, so I lighted them up. The original lightsource was down right in the clouds, and still is (more or less). I figured the light might be bounced around inside the light cloud, so the other clouds could be darker. Call it artistic license if you like :P
June 4th, 2007, 09:53 PM
I bit off more than I could chew.
June 5th, 2007, 09:05 AM
be brave friend! its working....!
gorgeous pictures people, Major Eyecandy!
June 5th, 2007, 03:32 PM
corrick and yoitisi, those are some kickass entries!
June 5th, 2007, 04:13 PM
Ha! Major Eyecandy, of the Lost CHOW Battalion. I wonder if he wears a monocle.
June 5th, 2007, 05:03 PM
Seedling - I like the yawning hole in the middle of the scene emphasizes the floating nature. Looks like bits have just dropped off.
Corrik - I like the subtle colour scheme and how the flight of the closest carpet carries the eye across to the market.
Adi - very grand, good scope to have lots of interesting little details going on.
Yoitisi - the cloud lighting to me looks like there is a sun low in the sky diffusing through the clouds. The dark rock gives a threatening nature, maybe increased that the buildings look 'alien' to the enviroment.
Thank you for the comments that people have written.
WIP Updated (above) - trying to sort out tone and then lighting before working out colour.
June 6th, 2007, 03:30 AM
The Floating Bazaar was designed much like the spinning satelites you see in movies, only in reverse, to simulate gravity. It attracted the attention of various crazy artists and craftsmen, who migrated to the Floating Bazaar even before it was deemed safe, and before any decent system was developed to ship supplies to it. It doesn't have any energy source yet, let alone internet access, but the residents don't need either to make their unique products.
June 6th, 2007, 05:03 AM
Really liking the diverse range of concepts in the entries. Here's my take on it.
June 6th, 2007, 08:08 AM
ATAnderson: Looking mighty fine, mighty fine! Wouldn't surprise me should you win this round!
Update: Ok, I wanted to show people and do an interior, but I managed to show the landing platform in the background, maybe my favourite part of the painting now. I wanted to add a lot more "bazar"-like elements, stands and varoius wares, but I did spend so much time on the architecture, that I didn't want to block if from view! Hi-hi =) I was going, and am going to continue, for a Ralph McQuarrie look. I like his clear, clean work. Corrick by the way, has a wonderfully McQuarrie-type style! You rock!
June 6th, 2007, 09:56 AM
I wouldn't be surprised either, holy crap... talk about sweeping it up at the last minute.
ATAnderson, incredible work!
Shaktool, I dig your take on it, but the ladder in the foreground is either a prime example of laziness or it's just unfinished. It's a little distracting and looks like it needs work. Other than that, I think this one's pretty damn cool.
dragon4lunch, is it floating?
June 6th, 2007, 10:57 AM
Dragon4Launch... Its beautiful ..but is it floating? and how do you get there?
(hate to be a downer but those are the requirements)
June 6th, 2007, 11:08 AM
ATAnderson - I'm crying into my coffee now that I see your entry! ;-) It's beautiful.
Shaktool, yours makes me dizzy! What I fun idea.
I worked on mine more last night and this morning. It continues to kick my ass.
June 6th, 2007, 11:14 AM
sung-jae kim looking very cool sofar, my only crit would be or rather suggestions for improvement.. to make it more a bazaar.. less buildings, maybe more tents, flags.. maybe some birds flying over a part of the bazaar.. also maybe a reason why the rock is floating?? maybe balloons? giant boosters? magic?
corrick excellent! i love the angle and the whole design just screams bazaar! nice.. cant wait for the finished product..
June 6th, 2007, 08:09 PM
great entries here!
corrick, ATA: excellent work!
idiot apathy: really cool color scheme and the painterly style is lovely :)
June 6th, 2007, 09:33 PM
Nice works, fellas. Let me try any idea :)
June 6th, 2007, 11:11 PM
Well, work took over this week and I didn't have as much time as I would have liked to work on this but I learned some stuff from working on it so it's a win for me anyway.
I noticed that in the beginning of the thread everybody said that they were going to do this before they presented images. If I shoulda said that first then my bad, I didn't know.
June 7th, 2007, 04:48 AM
WIP updated to final piece on page 1. (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?p=1338711) Hope I didn't kill the piece with the addition of a foreground layer... :skull:
shaktool: Nice idea turning the whole thing upside down. Great the cobblestone texture - I smell a clever use of the stained glass filter... :> Whats going to happen to that stairway?
chrike: Impressive. Beautiful lighting. I somehow miss the 'bazaar' feel, but its awesome nonetheless.
June 7th, 2007, 05:32 AM
ATAnderson - Amazing job.
Thanks for the crits guys, will HOPEFULLY be updating soon..
June 7th, 2007, 05:47 AM
Thanks for the nice comments everyone, it's really encouraging for me to get this kind feedback.
@Seedling - didn't mean to make you cry, sorry.
I will try to give a good crit in the poll folks.
June 7th, 2007, 08:43 AM
Theres beautiful stuff here... 24 hours.... (more or less)
finish em up all polished and shiny.... markem "finished" plz
any thing that still ssays WIP won't go to poll no matter how beautiful it is.
No description needed since this is a very specifc brief
(the next one will be something nebulous and open ended)
June 7th, 2007, 10:11 AM
Dose you are good
you can state your intention, or you can just post..either ways' cool
just be sure to write "Finished" or "Final" and please if you post WIPs post all your images in one thread including the final... saves me having to hunt for it...
June 7th, 2007, 10:15 AM
I´m really intimidated by all those top-notch entries to be honest. Never thought it would turn out to be such a high quality round. But I' ll submit my pic nonetheless.
Went with a more paintery, children's book-like style here. The boy was supposed to be a placeholder, but somehow he grew on me.
June 7th, 2007, 10:29 AM
updated my final with my final :P
Turns out to be another round of eye-candy everyone.
June 7th, 2007, 10:30 AM
Chrike, that's super cool!! I suggest you tighten up those clouds a bit and it'll look almost like a matte painting.
June 7th, 2007, 12:53 PM
Hello conceptart i hope i am not too late.
ATAnderson: i like very much the concept and the rendering, really powerfull.
Idiot Apathy : very nice mood colors and painterly style , cool...
chrike: it's huuugeeee, love it, maybe you can play with the color variation a little more i guess
Here is my entry hope you will like it :)
June 7th, 2007, 01:10 PM
June 7th, 2007, 01:31 PM
wooooooooow great works guys :D super cool
ok my entry
Floating Bazaar :
The floating Bazaar is a place where every salesman can fell safe and secure from the thousands of thiefs, who are used to steal their valuable goods. Lifted up by magic, the Floating Bazaar is a clean, quiet place, which goes above all dangers. It's moving thanks to four giant flying fishes. The Floating Bazaar can reach every destination in the world to sell its rare goods.
June 7th, 2007, 03:25 PM
Hey folks some really sweet entries so far
my first go at EOW

I'm done with this one, and I need to be. Had to finally stop screwing around with it.
Seedling, regardless of the bite you took, the architecture you've introduced in the image is very nice, very elegant. Everything here is solid.
Chrike, epic, truly epic. I don't know what the light source is at the top, but it's cool and I like it. (What is it?)
DAN, awesome example of tight composition and detail.
Whiteeeeeee, very rich colors, very painterly, looks almost wet. I am constantly impressed by your work.

crapcrapcrap! Voting is going to be tough ... :S

You did also take part on this one? Cool, really stunning piece you got there! I´ll vote for you just out of sympathy :teeth: . No really, great work again.
You should have told me, so i would have also taken part, dude....!
Seeya next round (maybe)!
Of course, a lot of other fantastic entries here, too.... ATA Anderson´s rocks!!

thanks a lot hallo, junthi, Dan, Corrick and Vyse! :)
Even if it looks partly unfinished I declare it as done cause I can´t spend any more time on it.
I´m not that sure about the red thing on the top either xD It´s sort of -open for interpretation- Maybe sort of power supply for the bazaar; power and heat for the generators and facilities :)
@Dan: this came out pretty cool! Really like how you suggested the market and the color scheme u used in there.
@whiteee: lovely piece; it appears very lively due to your nice color variations and this overall painterly style
@hallo: I don´t think you messed it up at all. It´s more exactly the opposit. Imho the foreground element gives a nice impression of scale and adds more depth to your piece.
@seedling: hats off for doing a traditional painting :) almost a rarity. I like your subtle use of colors!
@yoitisi: cool use of high contrast in your one! almost sinister

June 8th, 2007, 04:48 PM
Take your time Chaos :) there's no rush.
Got to say though, this was (or is) a very good round of EOW, lots of great pieces of work around. I'll try to comment on them later. Cheers.

When I place my vote it will be not only on how good it looks, but the design itself. Does it tell me at first glance that this scenery is a bazaar? ATAAnderson and [DAN] are the only ones imo that have followed the brief very closely and pulled off nice pieces. Others word looks amazing, possibly better than the ones mentioned, but thiers has no clear indication that what i am looking at is a bazaar.
June 9th, 2007, 06:46 AM
Gorgeous round! Well done all
June 9th, 2007, 10:12 AM
Hey RIST [DAN]'s is a great painting but what exactly makes it look more like a bazaar than other entries
June 9th, 2007, 12:03 PM
THis is going to be the hardest vote in existance
June 9th, 2007, 12:45 PM
Updated mine (on this page). Getting closer to finishing it, will do so later. chrike and Dan, very cool that we all made sci-fi versions of the topic, cool to see different takes in the same genre!
whiteeee I love your fantasy take on it! Super fantastical and whimsical! Looks like something you'd encounter in, say, Final Fantasy or so.
June 9th, 2007, 04:02 PM

June 10th, 2007, 03:53 AM
