Hi. Im fourteen and will be entering highschool as a freshman in Spet. 07. I am very determiend in my art oriented goals and have a strong work ethic. I am searching for a place to hone my skills over the summer and have found
the Arts Students League of New York. Its reasonably priced and in a convienient location. Does anyone have any reviews/comments on this place? Are the teachers good? Do you think my young age poses an inconvience? I am grateful for any replys :)
P.S. If you happen to stumble upon my sketchbook regarding this post please do not judge my skills by the last post in it, since i have improved alot (in my opinion) since i last updated.

If the League is still run the same way, you have to find the right class for yourself. If you live in NY, visit. They used to allow new students to poke around. When I attended (many moons ago) the class met 5 days a week and was run by a monitor. The instructor attended 2x a week. It was a wonderful place, but times change and I'm afraid I can't be much help to you about what its like now!

Thank you for the reply maxine. The league does have choices for attending classes 5x a week, but they have expanded their schedule. I will most likely be taking saturday classes for a month. I intend to drop by the place this weekend to scope the place out. I am prolly gonna attend one of the life drawing classes. So youre saying that the classes dont have alot of instruction?

I'm sure the once a week class will be instructed! Let me know how it goes. Also, check out our web site: www.maxthemutt.com. I think you'll enjoy it.

I visited the League when I was in NYC. I think it's awesome. There's a lot of good teachers there, (Gheno, Ryder, etc.) AND I met a professor that teaches there that used to teach at SVA for lik 12 years. There are all types of skill levels and ages so I think u'd fit right in. But be warned, there are many waiting lists for the awesome teachers like Gheno so it's extremely difficult to even TRY to get into a class with him. But good luck!! A lot of talent has come from there! Pollock, O'Keefe, etc.

Hi all,
I am Sean from Malaysia, i am gonna attend ASL end of this year, as an international student, i will have to attend for a minimum of 4 years...pretty long time, but it's ok for me, i graduated from college majoring in painting about 6 years ago, went into graphic design industry, never painted much after that. I gonna quit and try my best to earn a living through my passion.
Any info or tips about ASL or general living around New york City as an Art student will be very helpful.
Cheers
sean.
