eh. genetics has caught up with me and now ive discovered i have astigmatism just like both my parents.

walked into the optometrists, sat on the exam chair, and found myself unable to make head-nor-tail of the blobs on the wall. this is worse than i thought i remember myself thinking. ive always prided myself in having good eyesight, especially since my eyes are my livelihood as far as my art is concerned. guess its been such a gradual decline that i havent noticed it up until now. apparently my left eye is slightly long sighted and is dominant, whilst my right is shortsighted and is the weaker of the two. the super crazy techno glasses the doc got me to put on showed me a crispness i havent (apparently) experienced in quite some time. it was pretty cool i guess..

cant say ive ever suited glasses, but then again i suppose there arent many who think that of themselves before they get them in the first place. contacts are out of the question as they would not solve any of my focussing problems.

at least im not going blind, and i have significant optical insurance which should cover the costs. that, and my girl is inlove with the geek in me, so i guess its a win/win in most ways.

oh, and in case anyones interested in my doings over the past few months, ive settled in my new townhouse, become financially independant (now training as floor manager at my store after 3 months), and have taken on some freelance work on the side. just completed my first big job with a local band, and they are stoked with the results, which is a boon for my confidence in the field. got another few large-ish contracts on the way. my photography is earning me a little as well. im happy, healthy, and just came out of a week-long cowboy bebop obsession (bought and watched every episode and the movie, just to top it off).

so thats my little update on my life, in case anyone was missing my obnoxious self around these boards. im getting internet in a week so my presence will be greater then. hope everythings going well in your life!

I have astigmatism, I have pretty strong glasses for it but I hardly ever wear them, especially not when doing art. Should I? Yes. But I had astigmatism for so long before it was diagnosed (probably since I was a young kid, but my mum finally noticed I was blind as a bat when I was about 12) and I can't get used to the damn things. Everything's about an inch to the left of where it really is without them, and I automatically make up the difference so when I wear glasses I walk into everything, trip over, miss things when I go to pick them up, etc :P

I guess I'll have to if I plan to do anything artistic as a career, but they drive me completely mad :S

I have it, and it's good that you can have it corrected, because it seriously throws off my depth perception. I had to wear an eyepatch when I was in kindergarten to correct my lazy eye, too.

Good news is you can get contacts for it. And they've been working for me for quite some time.

I have astigmatism too, and I wore glasses through high school and college. For some reason, I stopped wearing glasses and haven't gone back since...my vision is pretty good without them.:perv:

I've got a pretty bad one as well... but I also have something else that I can't remember.. My eyes will flitter back and forth (some people call it a 'tic', which I dislike) when I look at anything, usually undetectable by my own Vision, but apparently visibly to everyone else. All through school I've been called "Jiggly eyes" like it's a bad thing. =\

My right eye is also the least dominant of the two.

Good luck stoph'a

Get yourself laser operated or something. i have had this eye condition for about 10 years of my life it and it sucks! hopefully by the end of this year i will have my vision corrected (if the optometrist thinks it's possible). Good luck!
