Wow... these are really cool! Expecially Ive's work. That is really awesome. I love they style. The pose is a bit static, but the tentacles help bring life to the piece. Nicely done.
Daveneale, did you use 3d at all? It looks like you might have. Either way its a simple concept, but a very interesting one. Nice work :)
Jutami, its a bit messy but I really like the conept here. Just clean it up a bit and I think it will be awesome!
Cant wait to see more... Im gonna work on getting something up. But... yea... Art History Report to do :'(

n0ireclipse, The color helps me read it much better -- it has a lot of gruesome elements that add up to a really sweet and endearing image!
Just reading the topic description gave me a seizure, but it seems that everyone made it through. I'll work on critiques then edit this post accordingly :)
Jutami: A quick sketch that managed to get all of the elements in! Interesting and disturbing placement of the fuel globes.
daveneale: You pared down all of that descriptive verbiage into a very clean, cute, iconic image - I love it.
Ive: An almost effortless sense of color and balance. I don't see a pet, but your image is too cool for me to care.
Magus X: I could see this develop really nicely in your style, but it's a bit soon to tell at this stage.
Ashton: That is a disgusting sack of weirdness, and yet I find it oddly touching -- wonderful work!
Hamsta: You use art like language -- no matter what the topic, your point of view comes through. All of your art seems light-hearted yet soulful.
Project...Devf: I can't figure out quite what's going on in there, but it makes me curious to see how it would develop.
DigitalVanilla: I love the textures and colors. I think that if the forms were more refined that they would act as a focus and counterbalance to all of the stimulus that you've put in there.
Sunny: Very evocative for a quick rendering. It has an insect feel that makes me creep up in my chair. I sort of lose the bottom, but the feel and mood definitely hit me in the face.
SGR: This has a graphic/deco feel that surprised me! There's a slight bit of compositional confusion where the pet's head intersects the tentacle, but as a whole I find the image to be beautiful and balanced.
Charcoal: I can really see this guy inhabiting a universe -- and his pet is Gizmo! What could possibly be better?
Southern: You've used the silhouette, back lighting, and cold secondary light to spectacular effect. I can practically hear the gears whirring and the fuel globes clacking. I don't know what's happening with the details of the body, but the silhouette and lighting sell it.
ZonE: Very dreamy and peaceful, and you aren't afraid to make the spacious environment an actor as well. The drone's tilt gives an otherwise symmetrical composition movement and life.

Hey guys a lot of great ideas! Let me share my opinion:
Jutami: I think you nailed the subject pretty good, all the elements are there and I like the "oh my god" pose :)
I like the globes with green liquid.
daveneale: Looks like a giant rubber balloon! Sweet ^^
I think it misses on the droid/mage thingie though..
Magus_X: maybe try to go for a more heroic pose/point of view
Ashton: Scary and funny at the same time (becouse of the pet :) ) I would sure like to see this colored and fully detailed!
Wystro: Very cool concept! It's in pretty early stage od development so I can't bitch about colors but maybe I'll say that next time you should be watching how you crop your image :} I like his spine!
Hamsta: Nice use of red lighting, maybe try working on your backgrounds
Project...Devf: Try to establish the composition and define forms! It's hard to make out what's going on in the picture...
DigitalVanilla: Nice, some of the abstract forms in the foreground are quite unnecesary IMO, and the character blends with the background too much.
Sunny: mmm nice sharp strokes! love those^^ Please finish the picture and it will kick ass much more then it does now.
SGR: Not my cup of tea, but your style works. I love the pet, it's quite cool!
Charcoal: I love your concept, but the tentacles on the ground are a bit hard to distinguish. They look more like trails in the sand to me :bashful:
n0ireclipse: Hm, don't quite know what to say :/ looks mean^^ poor cat and I don't want to know what is he going to do to her...
Southern: Whoa man, very cool stuff there! It feels very cybernetic, mashing oraganic and tech parts into a mean machine. I would add a red eye or some kind of light source in the parts of his body that's in shadow. Buttons/LEDs something like that to catch an eye.
Zone: I love your concept, if you added a bit color variation in relationship foreground/background it would be even more interesting..
Goran: Svidja mi se :)
Interesting mix of technology and alien lifeform, I would up the saturation on the eyes a bit.

@ Wystro: Thanks man, very much appreciated the crit. I saw the problem with the pet/tentacle fusion as well, but so as to keep it under the time limit, I just went ahead with it (which could have been a fatal move for this piece).
@ Ive: Also, thanks for the crit. I am working on getting more "painterly" with my concepts, but I tend to be muddled and focus too much on one area. Believe it or not I actually had a darker more realistic image in mind for this one (which I may try to flesh out later this week).
Once again, thanks for your opinions

Well, hows about this one?
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/235/519675736_31ab4f6e1a.jpg
I kept the character angle similar and changed the characters and style somewhat (my painting style isn't as natural as I would like it to be). I liked the color set I used on the last one (the greens, purples and oranges) so I kept those, but I changed the overall background color. I left the back ground pretty bare, but I might tweak that later. I really wanted it to have a "poster-feel" to it. Hope you like it.

HOLY CRAP. these are sweet. I read the topic...and got dizzy, passed out, then woke up in a ghetto comic shop clutching a Cthulhu doll asking the packaging if it liked back rubs.....I need to build up my concept muscles

Ive Scanned pencils? great details and good job leading the eye to those details. I like what you did with the bg, the brush strokes add alot, but not enough to distract.
Maybe a little more action in the legs would have been nice, and some cleaner lines in the chest area.
Wystro Umm... is that a compliment? It sounds like your saying it's "nice" in an elaborate way.
The white background is so very bright, not sure it was the best choice.
I didn't notice the spider at all at first glance, on the other hand, my eye keeps being drawn to the spine at the bottom, so phallic.
The red works pretty well in highlighting things of interest.

First time with Open Canvas. I like the work flow, though that was regularly interrupted by the program crashing. It took me ages because I kept messing about with settings at random and accidentally using Photoshop shortcuts. I'm getting the hang of it though.
