DEF Spiderman 3!
You gotta be kidding..Spiderman was a flop.
*spoiler*
Btw guys and girls I made an interesting discovery whilst watching pirates. On the map jack had, the fountain of youth had an X marked on an island just above cuba. Just above cuba is florida and guess whats in florida...
Disneyland! It all makes sense :)
Knowing my luck I was just slow to catch on.

Was going to try and see it at the midnight showing last night but the lineup was long enough to wrap around the pearl.
Second attempt tonight, can not wait.

i thouroughly enjoyed it. first half left me confused on some parts, but i'm not sure why.
definately an ending i wouldn't have thought of,but i think it's awesome. mainly because NOBODY would have thought about that :)
jack seeing things like ALL the time made me wonder abit, but it fit to some extent.
chow jun had too little screen time imo (the way he was advertised all the time),but i think i need to see it a second time to fully compare.
heh,mr. man,i totally did not see this :) cool though.
definately worth the money,awesome movie.

Graphics were incredible. I haven't seen 300, so I don't know how they compare, but I was blown off my feet.
I imagine there'll be a fourth now -__-

The movie was indeed really good. :) I'm not one to get confused, so I understood the plot, but I would have liked the surprising father/son scenario between you-know-whos to have been developed a bit further, although the bit that was shown was funny. They certainly looked alike, but I just didn't get that "bond" feeling. I caught on who Davy Jones was in love with once they did a close-up of you-know-who. Maybe they could have added a flashback? lol, but that would probably be waaaaay out of the POTC style. Sao Feng was totally screwed over in the movie air-time department.
I really want a 4th one, but would that be a bit too much? I would believe that it's better to leave some things up to the imagination.
Did anyone stay after the credits? Lizzie's face was looking kinda doubtful for a moment there, lol. I think ze curse is broken? I popped over to IMDB.com for a looksie.
"You-know-whos" used, so I won't spoil anyone's movie trip. :)
WTFs up with the peanut???

While that may be true, Florida was thought to be the location of the fountain of youth. Some explorer lost alot trying to find it. I forget his name...probably Florida

I think Captain Jack kinda went off the deep end after being stuck in (to use PurpleRose's technique) you-know-where. I mean seriously. Peanuts..A bajillion jacks. That was just odd.
Anyhow, yeah, curse broken. Unfortunately, I had to read about that, since I wasn't smart enough to stay after the credits *stabself*

They were part of his torture because he owed 100 souls to Davy.
I guess the peanut is just one of those quirky jokes they use to tie the movies together?

Guess so.
Sure were a lot of..dying people. And dead people.

May 27th, 2007, 03:44 AM
The people they saw from the boat? Yeah, Davy's job was to ferry people who died to the "other-side," but he stopped doing that after a certain someone forgot to do something.

What was good about this movie:
humor, characters & costume design (Keith Richards (captain Teague) ownes bigtime),environments(shipwrecks cove was top),battlescenes, most of the special effects
*Spoiler*
the intro was pretty strong indeed with those hangings.
Although that stupid textline "Sir, they've started singing" was kinda silly.
negative:
storyline
- something was wrong too many side tracks or too complex, too busy - (for kids the many betrayals and double crossings are a bit too much, even for a pirate movie)
- the movie didn't have to take 2 hours 48 min (ok they want to show us as much as possible in the last movie but it doesn't help the story)
*SPOILER*
calypso
- c'mon cg can do better than a simple giantess, i was expecting a giant sea serpent-mermaid creature after they called her fish-woman all the time.
Always stay 'till after the credits definitely with POTC
it was an ok movie, if you like pirates and good entertainment definitely worth seeing but not the best movie I've seen this year.
6,5-7/10

I thought the multiple Jack's was like finally getting to see inside Mr. Sparrow's head.... they cracked me up though "I've dropped my brain...."
I was pleased with the movie... it managed to redeem my movie-going experience after the dissapointment that was Spider-Man 3. Mostly I went out of curiosity as to how they would wrap up the chaos they created with that plot from the second.
Just counting down the days to Transformers now XD

One the best movies I've seen in a long time. The cinema has waiting for a movie like that, and its about time. It met the hype and didn't disappoint. Story was really good. Acting was great. Effects were amazing. Solid -

i really enjoyed this movie, saw it on thursday cant wait to see it again. I agree that it could have been a little shorter (though i dont think it felt like 3 hours at all] and i think there should have afew less double crossings.
But over all it was an AWESOME movie. I loved it
"Nobody move! I've dropped me brain!" - Jack
"Do you think he plans it all in advance or makes it up as he goes along" - sailor dude on Capt' Jack Sparrow.

After seeing the movie, I still have no idea what it was about...
I think it was about the world of corrupt commerce pushing the world of corrupt freedom into oblivion but not without a last stand involving a sea goddess, a monkey, a peanut, a trip to the underworld, a betrayed lover, a tenticle bearded captain, the birth of a coporation, 9 of 8 pieces, a princess turned pirate king, dead crack'n, a son trying to redeem his father and roughly 26 backstabs?
Was the cg supposed to be the crux that all of this relied on?
Where was the story?

Where was the story?
Hmmm... you may need to watch it again sweetie. :) You got the gist of it, but I think it is more a story based on making the right choices in the heat of the moment when faced with corruption, greed and opportunity. Thus, the 50 billion double crossings.
Yeah, I wanted a sea creature not a giantress, lol. It's friggin Calypso, come on! They should have looked at a cartoon pirate movie like Sinbad or something for better inspiration or better concept artists. I think her accent was WAY too thick though. I'm used to being around accents like hers, but damn... lol. :)
I think "Spoilers" needs to be added to the thread title now. :)

Having loved the other 2 pirates movies I was hoping this one would do justice, but it was just so much worse. Its like the people making it were afraid to do anything to not compromise a future sequel, they didnt stray from the original story in the slightest and everything that happened in the movie had no bearing until the last 20 minutes. Everybody betrayed everybody, they all wound up at the same spots they started but with a giant chick on a boat and 500 useless ships watching them. Am I the only one disappointed by how they just killed off the kracken, the majority of Davy Jones' power and appeal, with just a 2 minute beach scene?

Spoilers Ahead
I just saw it today, and I have to say, regretfully, that I was fairly disappointed. The whole movie had this feeling of drag, and also the feeling like it was trying to include too many plot lines and characters, but not really feeling any of them. Davy Jones was pretty much neutered for most of this film, far from being the great, intense villain he was in part two. He has some glory in the climactic scenes, but it doesn't really make up for his powerlessness (and absence--you don't really see much of him) during the rest of the movie. The Kraken, one of the better things in the second movie, is nothing but a rotting corpse in this one. And why? The Kraken was under the command of Davy Jones, and in this movie Jones was under the command of Lord Beckett. Wouldn't the Kraken just raise Davy Jones' usefulness to Beckett? Maybe the Kraken would have just made Jones more volatile and difficult for Beckett to control. I dunno.
All the different pirate lords were intriguing, but they were pretty much useless. They just prolonged the movie with more talk and less action, and did absolutely nothing while the Black Pearl and the Flying Dutchman were going at it in the maelstrom (Lord Beckett's armada similarly impressive-looking and useless). And then, one that's cleared up and the Pearl and Dutchman annihilate Beckett, all the other pirates cheer and do their victory things, even though they did nothing but stand aside and look like exotic pirate characters.
Keith Richards could climb a coconut tree to the moon on the energy of all the unrealized hype over his little cameo. I was expecting more antics, as would befit the father of Jack Sparrow. I was expecting chemistry or conflict between he and Jack. But...nothing really happened between the two. And Jack Sparrow himself, while still highly entertaining, seemed to lack some of the essence he had in the previous two films. All of the characters seem to have lost a bit of their vital spark, if simply because the movie was so preoccupied with including everything that it ended up neglecting everything as well.
Anyway, despite all those complaints, this was still a fun, decent movie. Funny moments: the dwarf shooting his big gun and flying back from the recoil (echoes of men in black 8) ); the Indian pirate lord's squeaky voice when he finally does speak; Jack Sparrow missing himself when he leaves.

Man, I saw it yesterday and I loved it!! :D I think it was the action that did it for me. I liked it more than 2, but less than 1. And since we have spoilers, I'll mention some that I managed to remember. XD
Good stuff:
--Jack is crazy. XD Jack and peanuts. Jack and stone crabs. Jack and other Jacks all over the place. Ha ha!
--Jack's dad...is hot. I know there wasn't too much between them, but I found SOMETHING slight. The mean Dad and the light-hearted son! I wish we could've seen more from him though!
--ACTION!! I can never get enough action, it seems! And there was PLENTY of it!
--High-pitched "We shall go to war!!"
--Jack and Barbossa ALWAYS best each other in some subtle way that is also humorous!
--Elizabeth. I liked her this time.
--Will's outcome. That was both unexpected and cool for Jack and will!
Bad stuff:
--Davy Jones was a bit...well, Moai said it. I was disappointed with him, except when he was fighting Jack. So I was ALSO disappointed seeing the Kraken dead on the beach.
--Which brings me to a chunk of plot that I honestly wanted to see at the beginning. I wanted to see what happened after the Kraken devoured Jack in 2. And the responses from the crew towards Barbossa. I really wanted to see that stuff! And frankly, I wanted to know how Miss Tia got Barbossa alive, seeing as she mentioned why it wasn't so easy to get Jack back.
*pant* Yeah, that made me mad.
--Calypso. I definitely agree about the giantness. To tell the truth, that great storm and her ascension into the sky didn't even connect with me, even though I knew it was her. Oh yeah, and I wonder what words she was saying with that deep voice. Hmm.
--The very end wasn't so hot. But, are ANY of the pirates after-cred parts good? The second one was the worst.
--*sniff* Norrington. :(
After all that, I can still say the movie was awesome! XD I'll watch it again, I just don't know when! Ha! I'm thinking, if they made a fourth one, that would be an interesting movie series going on! But I'm not sure if the characters can really stay the same! Hard to say if they'll make it good. Maybe they should leave it.
And just to compare, Pirates 3 is WAY better than Shrek 3, and better than Spidey 3. :P

I really enjoyed it loads apart from a few minor gripes. Surprised noone has mentioned the marriage while swordfighting as something that was so damn irritating and twee. I could have been sick at that point :|

enjoyed it but the first one remains the best. Personally I thought they had far too little of Jack's personality - the "I'm terribly sorry - if I see one I shall inform you immediately" and "I love weddings! Drinks all around!" + "Inescapably."
I don't like it when film get too caught up in complex events - especially when they start with such great characters. Depp and Rush are brilliant and are able to carry the film where the other actors fail.
All in all not a bad film at all, but could have gone sooo much further if they had placed focus on characters rather than events. I think the complex plot line make for great re-watch value, but not at the cost of charm.

No no, what I meant was that we as an audience go to the movies for stories, sure there are hooks (trailers, marketing, posters, etc.) lines ("This was almost the day you caught captain jack sparrow" "Peanut!" "Monkey!") and sinkers (cg, cg and cg) but does a 1000 backstabs add up to 1 story, I don't believe the audience thought so, and perhaps there is an inate lesson to learn from that, possibly one of the key THEMES in the movie, but it certainly isn't a story and I think these well established loved characters in a gripping story involving davie jones, a sea goddess and a son trying to save his father while amongst 1000 backstabs was what we all were hoping for...
But did we get that?
