Hello all! Does anyone have any idea what sorts of books would be good to study for illustration and concept art. Im reading a lot about storytelling, techniques for illustration, anatomy drawings, perspective and the basics.. but im looking for how to illustrate from literature, how to illustrate sci fi and other genres, and other advanced topics. Im trying to stay away from short books and looking for more scholarly or the related types of books. Any ideas would be graciously accepted!

Hmmm......it's hard to suggest anything if you've already got the fundamentals covered. I'd suggest books from Design Studio Press or Ballistic Publishing for good examples of digital art. Also, any books of concept art for films, collections of vintage sci fi art, Heavy Metal magazine, comics, etc. are a good resource.

You can also do a search for threads with "books" in the title and find more stuff.

There's that "force" book by Mike Mattesi...really, if you look hard enough on the internet, you can find anything.

Indeed, thanks much guys! Im trying to find a way to figure out what types of books colleges are using.. basically so that I can just buy them, read them, practice them, and use the techniques in my fine arts degree for critique and the related. It basically a manipulative way to attempt to make school cheap but also have the same feedback from other artists. Any ideas on how to find books that certain schools use? Mainly because I know they will be the right book.

As far as schools go, the books are nearly irrelevant. It's the professors that really make the difference. Books are just the avenue art teachers use to make their own points, almost like koans and poems that zen masters use to assist others in enlightenment. Basically, you just need to hit everything you can. Scour your local library for the best art books. They'll be there, I promise. Just ask for whatever's the most popular.
Oh yeah, the "book" seedling is creating right now, located here (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=81332) has been a phenominal asset to me. Those exercises, a sketch-a-day, and Andy Loomis' books are the perfect springboard onto anything.

Someone posted a link to these awhile back and I thought they looked like great resources.

They are the four pdf files listed under "My Notebooks" on the far right of the page.
