I did a search on this but many of the threads that came up were unanswered or were unrevelant to what I'm searching for.

Anyway, I was wondering if there are any grads from this program or if anyone anyone here knows anyone who took it? I really want to know how's the program and instructors there.

Hi!! I'm currently accepted in the Commercial program and I've got a couple of friends from the program- one who graduated digital, and some are in second year. It's a 2 year program, so it's really intense, but really friendly, and everyone is really hardworking. The instructors are great.

It is a shorter program than a lot of schools, so you have to be prepared to really work your ass off. But it does prepare you for the industry, I think :)

Congrats! When do you start? I don't think it's a short program. 2 years seem be right for a diploma program. I heard the faculties are very selective of who they want in the program and only the best gets accepted..

The program sounds great but one beef I have is the location...It's all the way in North Van which is so far from where I live...

Do you still have a copy of the portfolio you submitted to them? If so, do you think I can see it? XD I want to see the skill level they want..

I start this september, (unless I get in off Sheridan's waitlist). There is a lot of talent at Capilano, and a lot of dedication (Clio Chiang, and others come to mind). But talent is mixed as far as beginning of the program. They do pick the top applicants, but their applicant pool isn't as big as some other schools. It's not the most competitive school to get into, but once your in, it's up to you on how hard you work. (super small classes, too!)
North Van is a bit boring, but quiet... and no student rez, which sort of sucks.
for skills, they're looking for strong lifedrawing/perspective/general skills rather than cartoony. I've got some stuff up at ashlyna.blogspot.com, but you'd be best looking at http://capgrads.blogspot.com/ which has links to all the grads. :) hope this helps!

Hey thanks for links. Your works seem awfully familiar...I sort of have a feeling I've seen them before.. Anyway, I really like the life drawing pieces your posted. Really nice stuff. :)

Do you know the average size per class? Is it about 5, 10, 15?

I would apply for this program in a heart beat but I just don't know if I can wake up every morning at 5 and take a 1 hour bus ride there. :\ Anyway, thanks for all the info you've given and good luck with Sheridan. I've heard nothing but praises about it.

That's what's super nice about Capilano, the program is only about 20 students in each year, so your class is 20 people, and you really get to know everyone.
A friend of mine commuted about an hour each day to get there, and it's hard, but it can be done. It's coming home late at night that is the problem.
I'd recommend applying anyway, and when/if you get it, then you can choose. :)
