The pirate ship is my first non-sketch, actually finished work with my wacom, so keep that in mind, I'm still learning lol. I have no real life painting experience so not only am I familiarizing myself with the technique of digitally drawing, but I am learning how to draw with color which is new to me. I'd like some critique on what I've accomplished so far and perhaps give a few helpful general rules that i could apply..

About the work: all are part of a fantasy/sci-fi universe based on the movie Treasure Planet, and a role playing game that is an extension of it.

My intention was to mimic the style of the movie and fit the universe by blending old with new. 1700/1800s technology with modern or futuristic tech.

^ Pirate ship. In the future will add personnel and hopefully make a nicer looking background. but for now it is finished

^ Alien directed energy pistol thing, similar to those seen in one scene in Minority report, although I invision this being more lethal.

^ 7.62mm automatic machine-pistol. Based on the Mauser C96 basically, but modified to be cooler.

Suggestions and Critique would be helpful :)

Great job my3, one suggestion on the ship, well nothing on the ship, more on the background... maybe you could smudge the nebulas a little, unless it's a compresstion issue, it sort of takes away from the picture.
Because the first spot I look when the picture loads up is the bright green nebula. And it's just sort of messy.

But other than that (which is just my own oppinion and taste), you have some really nice pieces.

Thank you for commenting.

I will definitely be adding life to the ship in the future, but for now I don't feel like working on it much more. So I guess it is a ghost ship floating through space, lol. I have planned for a better, more photorealisitc space background as well. The reason for the poor background is I accidentally merged all layers and saved over the PSD, so if I wanted to go in and make a good background, I'd have to begin from one of the work-in-progress early PSDs which is a ton of work all over again.
