im 18 and i'm hearing from people to pick up some super sculpey, im going to give it a try, but i need to know if you can build up sculpey on top of like a wire and tin foil armature and still bake it, or does it have to be 100% sculpey when you bake it. also, does it need to be hollow? whats the deal.
please respond asap !! thanks,

im new and i will be on here for a while because people seem nice,

I have been using sculpey for years and yes you can have wire frame, foil, I have even used wood dowls and it bakes fine. granted most of my stuff has been small mabye about 4 inches in diameter being the biggest. and It does not need to be hollow either just depending on how thick it is you might ask someone else on mabye a diff. temp or bake time, but for everything I do I just use the standard directions on the box.

Here is one i am working on right now with wire inside. Hope I helped!

Hey jessef. Not only can you use Sculpey around an armature, you can also bake it then add more clay and bake it again.

This is useful if you're doing larger projects where the Sculpey will be more than an inch thick in places. Extra thickness adds to the baking time. If the baking time is too long, you run the risk of scorching it. Scorched Sculpey turns brown or black, smells horrible and is so weak it's ruined.

It might be tempting to bake at a lower temp, for a longer period of time to reduce the chance of scorching but thats not a good idea. The polymer in the clay must reach a certain temp to cure correctly. If the inner most clay doesn't fully cure, the sculpture will crack over time.

Sculpey is great to work with but like any sculpting medium, it takes time to get used to.

Sculpey is awesome in that it does not dry out for a long time( like 2 months in open air), so just zip lock what you are not using at the moment. Personally I have never ever had sculpey dry out on me but others have, I still have sculpey that i bought 2 years ago that I occationally use it, but its just common sense i guess to be cautious. I always just leave my current projects out in the open unless they are in a spot that could get dusty or dirty from their surroundings. Plus, since sculpey is so soft, wrapping it would most likely 'F' up any details you had on the project.

Nice toothy creature there by the way! will be interesting to see that in the works.

Also where are you based? someone might be able to give you a cheaper sculpey supplier.
