(sorry for the large images)

most importantly i never have cast any of my things nor have experimented with other clays, i feel like i might be behind in this and am nervous that i wont learn this in college. i want to get into movies and concept modeling or creature making. im naive about where to take this talent and i need some guiding, thats why i joined this forum.

can anyone recommend good clay that doesn't need to be fired or hollow?

anyway please respond and thank you.

I dig the skeleton. You should post some pics in this thread, you'll get more responses.

keep in mind I'm your age, so I'm no sage, but:

If you're going to art school, I'm sure you'll learn plenty about mold making and different media. If you're interested in commercial applications, you should probably also look into some computer modeling courses. If your school is more fine arts oriented, it might not offer any. My college doesn't, and that's just one of many reasons why I plan on transferring

I can't help too much with clay suggestions. It depends on what you want to do with the piece and your preferences about things like consistency. Other people would be more helpful. It never hurts to pick up some super sculpey and go crazy. check out http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=18287

also, you should check out theclubhouse1.net . You can learn all kinds of things about casting and working in wax. You have to register with a non-free email account though

That was a lot of writing. Sorry, I'm a clueless noob. I'm planning my own first attempt with mold making with the sculpt in my signature. You should check it out, it seems to make people happy

yo thanks a lot for that tutorial, the guy who did that is insane! i hope to get to that level eventually, i havent worked to much with sculpy but i should try it out more i guess, i did one project with it and it was much easier than traditional clay, the stuff i used is ment for like tea pots and dishes. anyway thanks for the advice i will post pictures up soon.

Hey Jesse, welcome to the forum. You've got a lot of great work on your site and I'm really impressed
by how diversified you are. Nice to see someone as young as you with so many creative interests. Anyway,
as far as a new clay goes, my opinion is that you should definitely jump into Super Sculpey. I've used
alot of different clays/epoxies/etc., and overall, nothing comes close to the ease of use, lack of mess and
unlimited work-time (in terms of drying out) that Super Sculpey gives you.

There are lots of extremely talented people on this and many other forums that have their own methods
and techniques, so for the time being, I'll just give you some of the advice that I've passed on to other
members that have requested assistance. Hopefully it'll give you a head-start. Go to these links and
scroll down to the post# indicated:

http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=66892&highlight=grey+super+sculpey - (post #2)

.....and finally, my own thread, which is composed almost entirely of Super Sculpey creations. You don't
have to read every post, but throughout the entire thread, lots of people have asked me questions which
I've done my best to answer, often at length. Just look for the posts where I appear to be rambling on.

I hope this helps and I look forward to seeing more of your creations in the future. :rendered:
