I'm looking at his work a while now and I think he has an amazing style. How do you think he works? What does he use, etc...
Anybody know a little more about this artist?

AND does anybody know an artist with a similar style/approach?

His site: http://www.yojishinkawa.com

Its nice to see an artist that works traditional most of the time and not render his stuff in ps or painter like crazy.
I have a some of his artbooks from MGS and his environments and mechs are some of the best I have seen.
Some work.

Removed some links because of the remote linking..

he uses a brush pen. colors are done with painter (at least that's what he said in the art of metal gear solid). more info here, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoji_Shinkawa

oh, and www.yojishinkawa.com is clearly not his site. it's just a fan site dedicated to his work. it says it on the front page :p

I'm a big fan of the pantel brush pen, I use it a lot. There are a couple of artist out there, but I don't think they have a website. Let me dig through my books when I get home.

Thx for the interview mr.point.

Here are some scans from the artbooks.
Actually I prefer this style to any tight highly detailed render.

Like that first image of snake or that second image of psycho mantis, I mean how can you achieve that? Only thinking about the shadows or something?

Any input would be great.

MGS1 and MGS2.

Btw his technique involves erasing and fixing things digitally :) But it's just a matter of having a perfectly clear vision before you put down your brush and a perfect understanding of how the brush works.

That comes with effort. So, buy a pentel brush pen and start scribbling. The first 50-60 drawings will look like crap but there will eventually come one or two drawings that will make you go "a-ha"!

I'd really like to know what he uses. I tried imitating his style with watercolours.
