I think they're looking nice :) One thing I'd suggest is to use the shading to create shape on the figures. In the first row of drawings, the middle one(girl in a towel) looks like it was just shaded all in one direction, maybe just to put down a tone. If you used the shading to define the form with darks pushing it back, lights bringing it forward, I think that would be a big help! Good luck!

They're not bad, i suggest goin for the life drawing and studying up the loomis, bridgeman and other classic figure drawing books.

for pencil technique...what helped me out was just drawing basic shapes...circles..hundreds, thousands of them, trying to draw a perfect circle without using a circle template

and of course draw everyday...lots of drawing..lots.like riding a bicycle, a good part of pencil technique is just motor skill.

Thanks for the nice replies. :waves:

I had many bad drawing days lately ... :(

Cashmere: step 4 will come eventually. I tried more than once already.
Baaad drawing days I tellya.

To be honest I moved parts of the scanned version around ... the proportions were horrible.

I think this is the way to go at this stage:
drawing stuff that doesn't take so long
(until I can work faster and/or concentrate longer)

good stuff overall.. definately improvement. especially in the self portraits. The most recent deer/elk pic .. whatever it may be.. is fairly good even tho its roughed in. it gave it more of a stylized (good color sense) type of look that i like in digital. keep chuggin - piece - chudds

The rich colors were a part of the original image.
Yeah I avoid going too much into detail.
I try to capture the overall feel of the photos.
Can't say I'm very successful yet.
But I will be if I keep practicing!

Thanks for your comment XIA. You keep getting better and better btw.
Very inspiring :)

I don't like most of my images ... maybe it's because of the subjects.
I'll have to choose more carefully.

Here is a new study that I posted at Sijun ... C&C anybody???:

Finally I invested more time in an image again.

The reference image is taken from the Pandora-Stock account at Deviantart
~Pandora-Stock (http://pandora-stock.deviantart.com/)
and I got permission to post it outside of Deviantart :D

This is the image I used:
Deviation 4090875 (http://www.deviantart.com/view/4090875/)

I almost gave up about 3 times I guess.
( After the first step I wanted to post it as Uma Thurman fan art ;) j/k )
But I actually thought about leaving it sketchy
(step 6 ... because it kinda had a Micke and/or Joachim feel to it)

As almost always I used a mouse and The Gimp.
Here are snapshots of the process. It's not a "how to" though.
But I guess it goes to show that it is possible to make major changes even in later stages.
Process (http://andyart.de/images/steps/pandora_steps1.jpg)

Thanks again. Yeah it took a while but I don't know if I could work faster with my tablet

Not to proud of this version.
But it goes to show that the approach can save time and make it look less artificial I guess.
