Hi all, here is a weird post for all the digital artists who one day having a 286, a pirate copy of Deluxe Paint (formerly an amiga drawing program) and under ms-Dos 4.0 started to create digital paints. This post is to tale the story of that really old images made to be printed with dot-matrix (9dots) printers, a tale of 640x480 16 color graphic cards, a tale of pixels, a tale of a world without layers :o

Remember, I'm not an artist but here are some of my pretty old and first digital drawings, I'm talking of 1991... nothing more!! Hope you like it :)

Images are big but weights almost nothing as they're only 2 or 16 colors. So,

look at it and post (if you have) your 1991 Deluxe Paint images ;)

Here is a firefighter a friend asked me to draw (to be used in a t-shirt... wheeee )

This one is inspired in a movie (don't remember what movie :p ) and I was really proud of it... divine inocence.

This is one of the few images in MCGA (320x200x256), inspired in the really good spectrum game ELITE (say hello to the Cobra MKI)

Sorry about this (she punisher!) I was only 17 years old...

I really like this one, used in a campaign report (to be printed in a dot matrix one) for a wargame of colonial wars in Sudan (yeah, bite the bullet bloody Madhi sucker!)

This one is for the Venus series of Edgar Rice Burroughs, I made this one even in 3d ;)

Another from "Carson in Venus", scary mmm?

It was hard and pinfull to draw (whit shadows and all) with only 16 color standar pallette, yes, but here is a sample, a mech for Battletech, really proud of it :)

Another image for battletech, three mechs... oh, it was a hell to do this pixel by pixel draw... but so so funny... :)

And finally the last one in 3D, I tried a lot of experiments with classic red/blue 3d using Deluxe paint, here is one sample, if you got a R/B lens (and changingthe tone of red and blue) maybe you'll like it. To make this I almost blown my eyes... damm plastic colored filters!

And thats all, there is a lot more things... but now, here is my sample, ¡post yours! :)

Oh goody! I've been trying to purchase an amiga that is still working lately, trying to get all my deluxe paint files transfered to windows. Awesome! This gets a kitsch love factor of ten out of ten!

Oh, holly God... I lost all my spectrum48k images I made with Art Studio... that was really great, trust me, work with a really low resolution with the handicap that in each 8px*8px square yo can only use one and only one background and one and only one ink... why I lost that pretty images?...

;)

But, all of you... you surely have some kitsch images too... so, what are you waiting for posting it here?

Awesome! Really funny stuff. I happened to have some 3-D galsses so I was able to get the full enjoyment of the 3-D piece.

Very nice....

Those where the days....

Anti-aliasing by hand, in 256, 16 or ... 2 colors, rastering _by hand_, gradients _by hand_ ... man that was one hell of a jb. I recently had to get back into it all for a gameboy demo, so i fired up my old DP II+ and pixeled away. After a day i even started to remember the keys and tricks again !

Still valuable skills today if you are working for GBA games.
