Referenced via this pic (http://brain.gamekey.com/digital/the%20shaving.jpg), I started this a coupla days ago with a rough pencil sketch which I scanned in and then proceeded to colour. The hair wisps are currently 'placeholders' which I know need re-doing (did them as I was rushing to work). I'd like to put a background, but currently unsure of what to do... suggestions?

I've never really used the Airbrush in PS before, wasn't much for it, but having used it for the majority of this, it was an educating experience. @:-)

My post was unreplied to and slowly seeping into the netherworld, so I bumped it back up.

It would be a shame to let a painting someone spent a long time on go without comment.
My recommendation would be to get the background in as soon as possible. All color is relative and the face will read differently against different backgrounds.
I'm not a big fan of the airbrush tool, being more of a brush painter myself. Regardless, I'd add more color variety to the skin tones. Notice in the reference how much skin tone is also carried into the scalp.
As for anatomy, I think the proportions are pretty on. You might try emphasizing where the bone in the nose bridge ends and changes to softer cartilidge even though it's not super apparent in the photo. And the forehead seems a bit round. Try observing the shape of the lips a bit more.
Anyways, nice start. Thanks for posting.
