Recently I've been trying to find more time to work on concept designs in my free time and less doing anime commisions, because I'm starting to get sick of 'em (only did it for the money)... so now I'm trying to build a portfolio.

Here is a quick rough thumb I did a few days ago, and I finally got time to sit down and do a sketch for it too.

I hope that shows up. Anyway, tommorow night I'll hopefully have time to sit down and do a final marker rendering of this... and if I like it maybe try doing a painted version.

I'm debating the tail because I just threw it in there, and I'm not sure about the shoulder armour on his left upper arm... what do you fellas think?

when I was designing this charcter I was trying to come up with an effective, scary, killing creature. My idea was that this creature could grab and hold its victims with its lower arms, and with its upper arms it could slice off the head, and then devour the entire body right into its chest.

After talking to a few people on IRC I started thinking about the creatures short front legs. My thoughts behind them originally was that it would need short sturdy legs because it had a heavy upper body. Anyway, now I'm wondering if maybe I should convert the creature's two front legs into long/strong arms that he walks on... that way it could run faster. Also when it attacks, it can get up on its hind legs to intimidate more and also use two sets of arms to grab its victim... making it a lot harder to break free from its hold.

i'd leave it as it is right now. make the left (our left) armour-plate on his shuolder look the same way the right one does. i think he could run fast with sturdy legs too...just make them look kinda stronger but not much longer, because then you would convert the whole creature into an centaur and i don't think that u want that.
keep on, and please color him later, he (it) looks fantastic, and the concept (not the sketch) is also straight forward.

I don't know if this is going to make any sense....For some reason I picture this as a large creature. I think it has something to do with the long upper body and the short legs, but whatever it is I see it as looming over people. If that were the case, and it feeds off of humans, it would need to have shorter legs so that it's prey would be within reach of the arms and claws. Otherwise it would have to do a lot of bending over, which is contradictory to a "perfect" killing machine. Anyway, that's only if the creature is indeed quite large, I guess what I'm saying is, I like the short legs. Also, your concept and description are great. I really like this a lot.

Sorry I haven't updated this thread earlier but I had to rearrange rooms and furniture and build a new desk on my day off... but now I have a better work area, so I should be updating very soon.

PencilPunx - yes the creature is fairly tall. I'd say the average human would measure up to the creature's mid-mouth area. Also, I do plan on changing the legs a little be, but the creature's height will remain the same.

finally got some time to sit down and work on this creature a lil more... As you can see I kinda went back to the old head design (simplistic), plus I changed the legs a lil... not as short and thick, but still strong enough to support its weight.
