Hi folks! I just recently acquired a copy of Painter IX (well it was actually a Christmas present, but I haven't gotten around to using it until now..). I've been painting in Photoshop for the past few years and there are some functions in Painter I cant find that I really miss.. For starters, an easy way of erasing! Is there any way of keybinding a brush change or something similar that will make it easier? I dont think I could paint digitally without one. :O

Are you using a Wacom Tablet? Because when your drivers are installed correctly the other end of your stylus is automatically detected as an eraser

Some brushes have "Eraser" method.

For example, make several strokes on canvas with some color with Tinting brush, now make more strokes on Layer 1 with same Tinting brush but with other color on top of the previous... finally, change the Method of the brush to "Eraser" and Subcategory to "Soft Paper Color"... make some strokes on top of Layer 1 strokes and you will find that you have a Tinting Eraser. Nice!

In the future you would combine these steps with "Jitter" for defining some crazy borders.

Hi,

For those who are using a Painter version that doesn't include the new Eraser tool introduced in Painter IX.5:

In several brush categories there are Eraser variants that work only with that brush category's brush variants. For instance,

Digital Watercolor (while the paint is still wet)
Liquid Ink
Watercolor

Any brush variant that's Impasto enabled, no matter from which brush category it's selected, uses the Impasto brush category's variants to erase color, erase Impasto depth, or erase both color and Impasto depth. These Impasto variants are:

Depth Color Eraser
Depth Equalizer
Depth Eraser (in spite of its name does more than erase Impasto depth, it digs a "trench" as well as flattening Impasto depth)
