Want your opinion about my illustration

Hello people!
I have been doing some illustrations with my graphire pen tablet, and I just wanted your opinion about this piece:

Hmm not much to critique here...can you/did you intend to work out a background? The only thing that bothers me about this piece is the thick lines around the face and right arm that should be part of the background...makes it kindof look like it used to be part of the creature that got taken out...

Shading it with black and white is making the whole piece look flat. The character also blends in with the background way too much.

cmoreland: Firstly, thanks ! Secondly, which thick lines do you refer to? Do you mean the shiny reflections around the front of the beast?
Thirdly, well, I just didn't bother to make a full background :P

candra:well, I used black in the darkest shades, cause I was using dark shades of green, but they were just too shiny yet. The highlights were made with lighter shades of green, no white. Else, how do you suggest me to shade it? I am here to learn! ;)
