Your images are well above the beginner level, but not yet at the “oh wow” stage. I think what you need to do to get them to the next level is to practice painting portraits from life.
Keep up the good work.

Seedling- thanks for your feedback and advice, most of my stuff is very cartoony vector stuff, so these are fun to do when that gets tedious, i do need to do alot more work from life, i dont do nearly enough. thanks again, and i looked at your site, i really like your oil paintings

My favorite is the Gorilla.
I'm getting a great Sumi-e vibe from it, that fits the gorilla's mellow laid back aire just perfectly.
I have to ask, though.
Why such high contrast on your human's noses?
I know it's vaugely taboo to question somebody's stylistic choices, but I'm really more curious than condescending.

Zilant- thanks for your input, and the compliment on the gorilla piece, it was for an assignment for a class in college, for the human character's having lots of contrast on their noses its mostly because of my cartoon stuff is done that way, like my stuff in the finally finished section

i just tried it with this more painterly style and liked it, not really a good reason. ive seen some other artists that i like do it, but not as much contrast, so maybe im doing it to a point where its hurting more than helping my stuff. dont worry about asking why i did anything the way i did, i appreciate you taking the time to give me a response, any feedback helps thanks
