Hello. I was hoping that you guys could shed some light on a problem that Ive been trying to figure out in these 2 pictures in my anatomi book. (Artistic anatomi, by dr paul richer). The latter picture Ive noticed that it is a 7,5 figure and the first one Im not sure.

But here is the confusion. If you look at the pictures you will see the hip is placed differently. In the first one the hip is placed below the navel and in the second one its above. And this makes a pretty big differance in placing that bone which sticks out (iliac spine). Im a bit confused, Ive seen andrew loomis put this iliac spine 1/3 from the navel, and in some other books it´s pretty much in the middle. And here is the same case. I find it kinda confusing if richer would use 2 different proportions to illustrate his work.

So please help me, what are the differances in the hip area in these 2 and in the 7,5 and 8 human figure?

they actually appear to be more or less in the same place to me... maybe i'm not seeing something though?

The pictures may not show what Im pointing at without directions. So Ive updated them. Please have a close look at them
thanks.

There isn't even a navel in the first picture, and even if there were, the navel is a fleshy bit that could be higher or lower on any particular individual. Not everybody is shaped exactly like this.

ok, the navel was a bad example, lets forget about that and look at the head lenghts instead. The hip is higher placed in the second one than in the first one.which Ive shown with measurement. And those 2 doesnt add up if I were to take them into photoshop and scale them to the same width and lenght. How can this be?

Anatomical drawings are just guidelines, every person is unique. If you're asking which is more correct, I guess I tend to go with the second.

Exact proportions aren't going to do you all that much good when you start drawing characters in interesting positions. Don't worry so much. :-)

hehe ok, It just thought it was very strange that his 2 pictures werent aqurate to eachother. And seeing that it is quite a mayor differance, the top one has the iliac spine in the middle of the fourth head and the other one 1/4 down of the fourth head, quite a differance :) but Ill compromise and put it 1/3. Dont come wooping my butt later for that. thanks :)
