View Full Version : Photoshop CS3: Match Color & Palette Swapping / Smart Sharpening /

I've - perhaps somewhat stubbornly - stuck to Photoshop 7 for a while now, asking myself "what could be so great about photoshop cs, that I can't already do with photoshop 7??"

Then I saw this article (http://www.boingboing.net/2007/05/03/improve_your_photos_.html), detailing a very simple method of how (in photoshop cs or higher) to swap your photograph's colour palette with one from another picture (a classic painting for example).

Of course, this doesn't GUARANTEE an improvement every time, but the process can be controlled to the nth degree - it allows you to control colour intensity, luminosity, and the degree to which you swap the palette out for the new one.

Also a cool feature is the smart sharpening filter. I shot this picture of a lizard without a tripod, in very low light conditions, and so it wasn't 100% focused, but the sharpening tool corrected it. I've also applied a palette from a painting of a countryside cottage, and boosted the luminosity (perhaps a tad too much, but you get the idea):

Here's another example. I had always really liked this photo, but now I see that the colour palette was completely washed out before, and that it was actually pretty blurred.

cool tip!

i just tried this on a painting. i'd made two for a project, but found that their color pallets didn't match up and the second one was better. it worked, but i still have to retouch some problem spots. :teeth:

Well then, silly Bill, you should.

I saw you name and popped along. The thread title also reminded me of a photoshop challenge I think was tried out, but didn't really work out.

As for the main point of the thread. Not a photoshopper, so I don't really benefit from this, but I'm sure others will... yay.
