Comments wanted on mountain scene

I desperately need to hone my colour painting skills so I'm doing this thing for practice. It's a pretty boring piece so far but I'm only doing it for the technical exercise.

I could use some input on it. I think it's pretty flat all over but not quite sure how to carry on with it. Also the mountains and the sunlit clouds don't seem to merge into a unified picture the way I want them to. Some tips from the painting gurus would be greatly appreciated.

im not a painting guru or whatever, but i say that your colors change too dramatically. from that orange tone near the sun to that deep blueish color. the mountains in the background need some shadows too, i think...
maybe gurus know better.

reaper, apart from the fact that I'm missing deeper shadows too I think this is quite good! Reminds me of C.D. Friedrich's color schemes.
