What the heck do infractions do??

There have been a couple of threads either explaining the new features or asking about them already, but so far there hasn't been a clear explanation of what infractions are or what they do. And I'm afraid to just try them out, in case they do something bad.:S Sooo...yeah, what do they do?

The icon is yellow and red cards like in footie, so I assume that's it. Although if the footie anaolgy carries through it would mean "bad/worse" I suppose..

"infraction" generally means breaking the rules I believe, so I'm going to guess it's a bad thing. I guess you'd use it to report flaming, spamming, and other such message board faux pas. Though I had thought that was what the adjacent "report post" button was for, so maybe these are just to let the mods know when somebody's just being a general all-around jag

If a user gets an infraction, it gives them a point.
If they get a certain number of points, permissions get taken away.
I don't think we have anything set up though for what permissions get taken away though, so I don't think it affects anybody negatively.
