Man, I love the treatment of the RudeDude machine concept. I love the galvanized metallic textured feel. Really nice use of colour and highlights to draw focus to the joints and armored sections, nice contrast in that one. One thing I miss in this are the legs, I think it should have been detailed a little more to support that beautiful upper body. Then you could still keep the upper body in focus by keeping the legs pastel tones. I love it!

yes its realy hard for me as well. try to experiment with brushes...it helps a lot, realy.

i still cant understand how some guys (mullins, scott robertson, ...) can paint with simple strokes. amazing. traditional knowhow is too important :/

about those brushes....actually, i dont use many. just some for skeching and blocking but most are simple shape-brushes...for example plants and trees. (http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/3687147/2/istockphoto_3687147_plant_shapes.jpg)

nowdays i use airbrush a lot...for blending different shapes, textures, photos.

well...it took quite a long time. I just have`nt made props a while.
btw i learned new trick...lasso tool. yea i know its old one..but i was afraid to use it before. just cut the bastard...no worries. its really good for adjusting the silhouette...which is the most important, as you know.

Hey man, your stuff is awesome! I was givin it a go on speedpainting too, but you really are mastering the technique. The only critique that I can do, is on the matte painting. It's a great idea, but something looks wrong. It's with that tractor thing, the machine. I think that the borders are to smooth, and the light sort of doesn't match perfectly.
But I love how you merged the two landscapes.
Btw: are you watching some dvds? I would swear that I see some Dylan Cole influence in that picture.

but about dvd`s....yes iv watched probably all gnomons, but it was like 4years ago. so there might be some influeces, but not much.
i just wanted to speed up my work and so i used photos for cheating :)

It looks like you're influenced by the work of Sparth which is not a bad thing. He is one of my favorite artists. It seems you've had more success in figuring out his technique, I narrowed it down to brushes but couldn't quite get that broken glass kind of aesthetic that you achieved in the last post. Nice grass as well.

Hey Kait, I see you've been up to some cool and interesting stuff since last time I checked. This last one reminds me that I need to do some things with trees to. Btw the tree seems a bit flat, almost like it's embossed out of the canvas, it could use a bit more defined stronger lighting to sculpt the shapes better and more foreshortened branches and roots that come almost straight at the viewer or go away.

good stuff, something is lacking in your work though, it might be more contrast or focal points, I think doing more life studies and environment studies will push the reality in your pieces. the guy smoking in the rain in the sci fi is fantastic but it feels it lacks something. I think variety could be one of those things as well.
