I'm looking for an oil painting book/guide that deals mostly with techincal stuff. I mean by that how to apply your strokes, the thickness of paint, blending (or not blending), edges, etc
Can anybody recommend a book or a tutorial? Once more I want a technical howto (especially for brush strokes).
Thanks guys.

Look for some books by:
Emil Gruppe (not my style, but I can't argue with the knowledge in them)
Richard Schmidt (unbelievable painter!)
Howard Sanden (portraits)
Those are all good, but hard to find, I am afraid and somewhat expensive, though the information in them is fantastic. The best book that I have ever found on painting though is one written over a hundred years ago by Daniel Parkhurst, a student of William Bougeureau. The best part is that it can be found online for free! Here is the link:

Good luck.

Hey black_fish, I haven't read the book yet (just got it recently from amazon) but it deals a lot with technical stuff:
Bill Creevy, The Oil Painting Book: Materials and Techniques for Today's Artists, Watson Gutptill 1994, ISBN 0-8230-3274-4, US$ 19,95
