Hello,

I'm trying to figure out the name of something... A friend of mine once told me about a device her aunt had that basically was a pen of some sort that burnt paper. I guess it uses this special paper and you draw on it with this pen that opposed to using ink or whatever it burns the paper.

This is a terrible description, I realize but having never seen it I'm just going off the description I got some time ago.

I'd like to buy her one, but alas, I don't know what it's called, which is making it hard to find!

Thanks,

Capnbob

Well, pyrograhy is burning patterns on wood. Could that be it?

Hi!

I believe you're referring to what is called a pokerwork or wire-point machine.

There are some pics here: http://www.ironcore.com.au/pyrography.htm

Or else your friend's aunt may have been using a fine tipped soldering iron.

Hope this is of some assistance

They're also referred to as Wood Burning Tools and can be found in many high-end woodworking catalogues and sites. They're often used by decoy makers. You may find most of what you find too hot for paper, so you'll have to create/modify your own points.
