Two ideas for guns.. these are quick doodles just for fun, made to suit a universe that blends old style pirates with space and sci-fi stuff. So I tried to blend old and new in the design.

I am looking for any suggestions to make them look more impressive as far as the design goes.

This is supposed to be a sort of directed energy weapon, something like those shown in Minority Report, but more lethal.

This is supposed to be a heavy duty machine pistol. 7.62mm, based on the style of the Mauser C96.

its great, but..
the shadows on the first one in the middle on the lower half of that thingy where the bullet comes out (yeah, i know...) aren't looking that good....but thats such a minor bug, that you could easily just forget about that one.
the second gun is looking boring with those rectangular shapes in the middle above the bullet-pak (eh, well it seems like one to me :D) maybe put a manufacturer-sign there...

but im just searching for little details right now, otherwise these are great guns.

i like it more now. maybe the bullets are too shiny, but i'll stop looking for dumb details now...

ohh guns:D!, please dont be offended if i sound harsh, subtlety is not my specialty,

first off, both guns are quite front heavy, this will take lots of strength to aim quickly, and due to the long barrels, they will not be good in a close combat situation, which pistols are designed for, remember, effective range for a pistol is measured in feet, not yards

also, why would a directed energy weapon have a striker? unless there is some sort of explosive to set off, one is not needed, also, imagine shooting the gun with the present angle of the grip, it is uncomfortable to hold, much less shoot, the one plus from that angle would be to be able to more effectively recover from recoil, allowing you to shoot a lot of shots in a general direction, but i assume you wont hit much

as for the second gun, maybe some sort of flip down grip would be in order, as that thing on burst or automatic would be uncontrollable, dangerous to the operator and anyone around him.

other than that, i think the guns are great and the designs are pretty solid, kudos :chug:

i like the first one alot. maybe give it some custom engraving like this.. http://www.aaengraving.com/gallery.htm

as for the second gun, it looks more like something from the thirties and forties. C/96 developed at the end of the 19th century.

on a minor note... i think your cartrage size is rather large.

Thanks for the comments :)

Szyslack - an engraving would be a cool idea. Oh, and the magazine is large because it is designed for 7.62mm rifle ammunition

Jon - good points. the thing is, these were designed mainly for stylistic appeal, usability was secondary. I may add a fore-grip for the conventional ammo machine pistol, but I had intended for the character to have 2 on hip holsters, fired simultaneously. The character is cybernetically, as well as genetically enhanced and thus has the strength to use the large handguns, and contain the recoil. You did get me thinking though, I may add wired sights into the machine pistol and outfit the character with an aiming monocle or something. Smart bullets? This is fantasy and sci-fi mixed afterall.

the energy weapon has a striker because I thought it would look neat. I was thinking that the powersource would be a sort of cylinger that you fit into that circular fairing on the side, and there's some mechanism involved where the hammer falls on to contacts on the energy cell creating a reaction.... or something. Like I said, appearance was most important here.

but you got me thinking on the machine pistol. Now I'm considering some weird design where instead of a conventional pistol, it'd be more of a bullpup design with a longer barrerl, attatched on loops/straps to a heavy belt, pulled up and turned to get into firing position... with aiming aids built in and synched with a cybernetic monocle type thing. hm. /ramble.

hmm, the concept of the bullpup will bring up a whole other option for your guns, as some people have succesfully electronically fired bullets using the bullpup design (back in 1988 i think, and instead of a striker the bullets were electronically set off) this setup could be concievably reconfigured into a pistol... so many possiblities
