Started this as a sketch in my book. Coloring in Photoshop. Comments, crits, and direction appreciated.

comment:
i like this sketch. i like the color.
crit:
you should define his hand better before painting.
onion:
i think you should use what you have as an underpaint. it would be fun to paint with a smeary painter brush and paint section by section like imphead does. other than that, i would create a new layer, looks like you are using photoshop, and opaquely render in the forms; id say around 80% with a hard brush.

oh...i thought he's got his hands in his pocket. didn't even notice them before. try sharpening out the lines. otherwise he looks great, maybe too weird for me...

I found the overall figure a little formless. The red in the background and the ink of the linework are really close, tonally, so the figure really just gets lost. I think if you lightened up one side of the background (probably the right side, given the light source), it would take care of that right away.

Great textures though. I definitely like the way the ink work shows through.

Hmm sorry but : Scary clowns aren't very original anymore... And I'm not too thrilled with the saturated/burnt colours either. Again, sorry to seem blunt.

Yea, the hand. Haven't figured out what he's gonna be holding. It's a ten minute sketch that hasn't really begun to take shape. As iit stands, I just threw some color on it to try and figure out what to do with it. Oh, and Egerie, sorry for not being so original. I hoped to get constructive criticism, not some fuckin jackass who talks a whole lot without really saying much. Sorry for being so blunt. :D

hmm sure. good thing I tempered my lines..

How about : Try concentrating on one definite light source. The texturing is interesting, you can push it even more. Also, try to get some anatomic reference fro the arm; it'll make life a lot easyer for you to shade it afterward. What's written above his belly button ? Looks like he's holding a blade or a book. How about the bible ? If you go for shock value it'll be perfect. One last thing you might want to try is make your figure stand out a bit more ? Maybe a secondary light source on the floor and a bit behind your buddy there ?
Just my 2c

Or : Oh I looooooooooooooooooove it please let me carry your children !

Is that better ?

thank you all for the comments and crits. They have been useful.

pconsidine, I will lighten up the background. I was thinking a doorway with some sort of light shining through.

Tomi. again thank you for commenting. I will eventually get rid of all the lines completely.

killing.people, thanks for the crit. I also believe I should have thought about the hands more before I started. And, I think the painter idea is a good one.

egerie, see I can be nice. I also think that the whole thing is too saturated right now. but since It all will be done digitally, I think I can fix it. look, I can take all you have to dish, just keep it positive. A little tact goes a long way, especially when dealing with people you don't know. My response was reactionary. Plus, my momma raised me right. I'm sorry, I was taught never to offend a lady.
