Hello guys, I wanna show you some speedie that shadowed me throughout the whole day. Altogether it took me about 2 hours, the main purpose was to push my weak face drawing skill, put expression in it and make it look...well...not flat
I'd really welcome any comment, critique, or hint that i can flow into my next face, don't mind being harsh (I know, u never do) :bashful:

It's looking good. Do a whole series, and you'll really start to get the hang of it. Say, a dozen one-hour studies.

This guy looks a little like the right side of his face should be a little more turned away from us. It looks a little like someone grabbed him by his ears and pulled. :-)

Also, the eye-lids feel too wide.

Not bad.

I agree with Seedling. Imagine how big would be eyeballs behind his eye-lids. Maybe also the forehead is a bit too flat.

Lol, yea, thats why he's screaming I guess? :P

thank you both for those quick replies, they're really motivating. I think you're right with the eyes...the whole head looks like its getting wider to the top.
Concerning the flatness: Maybe one negative factor is the light angle as well, what do you think? I noticed that I'm not really creative concerning the light setup...or at least can't get it down the way I imagine it :\

Shoot dog, don't be too hard on yourself. I like this one better than the previous. Your head proportions look much better along with the subjects expression. You should start punching out your lights and darks though.

thanks for the comment cubes, I just concentrated on the light and shade on this one - strictly kept it in one hour this time.....Its probably better to do two 1hour studies a day, than 1 2 hour one, eh? I like this one better, had a good flow...I didn't even get angry and frustrated this time

aaand another one hour piece, more expressive this time...never thought it could be funn to paint faces. No clue why, but to me it it somehow looks like elvis in heaven....though it was totally unwanted :P

you made me spend 1:30 on this one seedling. I just wanted to go place my belly in the sun when i read your comment...but who needs tan skin anyway eh? :P

I tried to go for more realistic skin color, and I'm satisfied with it..apart from the "comic look"...and not to mention the em... female softness ^^

It's refreshing to see someone dive into a series of studies like this, nuki. You should perhaps put this work in your sketchbook instead of here, though. (Though when your work results in a particular gem, this would be a great place to show it off.)

Yea, I think so too. I was just not sure how long i will be able to keep this up. But i feel good doing this so i will continue. Further updates will be posted in my SB ;)
