Reading the Dune books again, by Frank Herbert. As always, they inspire me to draw. Im trying to go for a night scene, and some parts are obviously incomplete. But im working on it now, so post any and all comments as soon as you can.

He's riding a sand worm, right? I'd start out by showing more of that. They're so massive if you go with a close-up of the Fremen, no one would really know what he's on. If it were my painting, I'd really plan out what the still suit would look like, what the worm hooks would look like and how one would use them (standing, straddling, kneeling), and the equipment a worm-rider would carry. Arakis is mostly empty desert landscapes so I'd try to show that too. Low horizon, maybe some cliffs way way out on the horizon--most of the background should be sky with little or no clouds. I know you're trying to show the blue eye thing, but you really wouldn't see them unless you were doing an extreme close up. Did they wear goggles?
When you working with a specific subject matter, like a known character, you really need to plan it out, especially when there are elements that you won't have reference for, like the sand worms. Rent the movie, see how they did it, then make your own interpretation.
Hope this helps.

Whoops! I didnt even think about riding the sandworm.
I was trying to go for a dark and moody night scene, and alot of it is incomplete. Youve given me alot to think abotu though. I think ill draw another one. Th equestion is drawign the snadworm. I never liked how they looked in the movie.
And no, Fremen dont wear goggles. They also wear long robes, to blur their outline among other things. You wouldnt actuly see much of their stillsuit (another reason why i didnt like the movie).
