i have a killer headache, i didnt get very good sleep today. it hurt to draw, so i couldnt do much other than think about how bad my head hurt .. here is my offering.

couldnt sleep. i tooks some asprin, and is working. my headache is hardly noticable. i started sketching on my bed, in the dark.

this is what i could see.

http://members.cox.net/wisdim2/sketches/sktch024.jpg
never look as good with the lights on.

whelp, i cant sleep now. im too terrified. it is quite interesting to draw when you can barely see at all, the sketches move, smile, wink, and try to scare the crap out of you. the fun started after i was done. the mirrors wanted to play, and the darkness from behind my head. the unknown is intimidating. im afraid i will draw in my sleep and the sketches will send chills down my spine.. ooohhh..

killing,

there is some great anarchy going on in your work. I especially like the way you despise beauty. Some sketches show a lot a fresh and new ideas and alot of loathing for life. Keep on to this, there is some real passion behind.

anatomy, here i come.
i would higly recommend others doing this when they are in the mood. i started studying individual bones of the skull. there are 8 cranial bones and 14 facial bones. this tool i call the internet is proving to be very helpul. i wish i had a plug directly to my brian to fuse me with the net, so it could help me better analyse and collect information.

I've been in a 4 week emotional/creative slump, and I've been constantly searching for a source of something that opens up that little pussing wound in my head that releases all the demons onto paper... fell asleep, thwarting my life drawing plans.

these images are of influences from both mon's piece and tutorial in the finished section and fosters sketches.

mon's tutorials awakened a relaxed, primitive, raw approach i used to have - when sketching was 100% pure fun, without focusing on studying something, without having a concept thoughtout before a stroke is made.

Yes! My man....That's what I am talking about!
Awesome work Buddy! Love them all especially the first!

Darrin says hi and Yes, Mark is here...I think I met him once but havn't had a chance to chat with him yet.

Mon's tutorial is one of the best stuff around. I saw his stuff a long time, trying to figure how...(but I am too dumb to figure out) and finally the master give us his tutorial. He's a cool dude too, it seems. The other guys I want tutorial from is See and Capt. FlushGarden...these two dwell at Sijun speedpainting (don't go there today...there is a virus going around over on the site. Wait a couple of days) Those guys are really amazing at landscaping and cityscape.

Shit! I talk too much...Yes! Those look great! Keep them coming!

n0fish: lately, i like the quiet! but radiohead, nin, weird stuff, heavy stuff, dark stuff, powerful, beautiful music - when there is too much quiet i listen to music, but this year there is always a god damn fucking phone ringing.
... it's irritaing because it is a waist of my time - its some poor sod that is being paid to try to give me something free with the purchase of - asking if i need new carpet or a long distance plan.
... at work, i listen to the radio. 12 hour shift. the same god damn songs! over .. and over and over .. and over .. "i like your pants around your feet-aahhrgg!"
thanks for liking my sketches, that makes me happy.

insane visions: i love your sketches, thanks for the comment wow.
.. it feels like i am becoming a clone, help me! ah!
your sketches reminded me of something i once had - but on a much much much much lower scale mind you. i saw your sketches and i saw something so familiar in them - it must be overbearing envy or something, i dont know ..
thanks for the encouragement - i have to break the things i do not like and keep my eyes on my feet.

jesus man, i don't know .. i must be stupid for trying to answer this .. color is such a hard thing. i have seen your paintings, they are looking great! you are kicking as much ass as ever! i dont know where you find all this ass to kick!

well i dont know shit, so first i would say know how color works. the fundementals would be enough to start with. know how to get certain colors.

look for favorite colors, remember liked combinations.

experiement with color when you are painting. use colors that don't have a name.

look for the temperature in a color; cool, hot:
green: :p  :blah:

pay attention to the effects gray has with color.

i like puddnhead's use of his light blue, turquois and purple. i love the way he uses color! there are tons of pieces that have such cool color in them. i love andriod's color - he is daring and showy with color, he plays with it. promethius's use of color is solid, calculated, clean and looks confident. nivbed, oh i love nivbed's colors. he is romantic with his colors, he is delicate and powerful, vague, cloudy and dramatic. imphead's colors are playful yet reserved and supportive.

i would say study the paintings you like, keep it in your mind and come back to the piece after you had an impression from it.

lastly, ask someone that knows what they are talking about, hehe. blah ..

K-P - that is some amazing and really good stuff. The blue tone work has a wonderful quality to it, a certain sense of cold clinical future ... Is it digitally tinted or is that what color it is on the page?

It looks like you're just letting your imagination run wild with these (not unlike your usual work), and I commend you for it. I so rarely am able to put daily life aside and really think cool new original thoughts, and when it's flowing, it's usually at a time that I can't sketch (daily drive time, for example).

You say this is older stuff...how old? Looking back through the thread it's hard for me to place it in the timeline of your style and efforts. It's really good stuff, so it's got to be recent, right? You haven't ALWAYS been this good, right?? ;)

These are great exercizes you've pulled off, and the use of different treatments, different color schemes and methods and such is a nice thing to see. I try really hard to stick to one medium or style sometimes so I can get good at it but it's hard to fight back the need for variety.

Were you working from predefined ideas on these or are these images the first "conception" of these characters and ideas? In some of your other recent posts it seems you're creating on the fly but these seem to be half on-the-fly and then some are very much describing something that seems to already be defined. I ask because I'm curious what your preference is - working up brand new ideas or fleshing out existing ones.

Great stuff, man. Thanks for sharing!

yiako - thanks for comments and the crit!

endregan - it is one of the many hl2 mods. it is called "solo axis". hopefully it turns into something great! our team has put a lot of work into the project so far. we are still in our preproduction stages of the project, 90% of the team is local and meet weekly for concept art jams and game design discussions. we are nearly completed with our first milestones set by ourselves. we should have a website up in a few weeks ;)

thanks for all your comments van, xia, and insane visions .. you jedi pimps.

hey thanks for the comment hurrican!
all of these concepts are of these voa alien race guys that have four arms and each arm splits revealing flippers that they use to flipout hard with. i didn't draw the nephilim final render but, if you look close you can see that he only has one arm that is "open". here are some designer notes i made for one of our modellers:
http://members.cox.net/schofiles/SA/design_notes_rgh.jpg

hi maldrin,
thanks for taken the time to write me a comment!
the blue sketches are tinted in photoshop and are mostly pencil. there is marker in some of them.
the older blue sketches have been around for a while, they fit around the second and third pages somewheres. i am not entirey certain :)
some of the older drawings were actually pre-concepted, if that is a word. for example, that megaman was drawn at a "jam session" that some students at my school used to have. it was basically a themed drawing session, where everyone would draw the same stuff. the concept of the character "vincent freedom" was a drawing of a character from a story i wrote in highschool where the detective, the victim and the murderer were the same person, so i basically had a good understanding of that character. the dude saying no fishing was result of a forum activity where people would post up a drawing of a unique character and other members would twist that character design into their style (it was very fun.) that "no fishing" guy was designed by "sammy black".

here are some more of that activity:
this was jook's chainsaw arms:
http://members.cox.net/wisdim/sk12.jpg

this was meshead's cardman (the one that started it all)
http://members.cox.net/wisdim/sk15.jpg

the "heavy sketch" was for an internet indie game project that fell through that i was working on a while back. it was my first game project! *le` sigh*

the voa concepts for solo axis were all based off of the designer's original sketch of "the voa" race he had created. after the team was assimilated, the concept art team tore her apart and started to remake her. the team came up with a general design and look for the voa together (the nephilim), and use it to create the other 'types' of voa that were thought of by the designer. the concept art team would all come together, talk about the design for the specific voa type and begin sketching out rough ideas and sketched until we settled on a final design. then handed the design to an artist to finalize. it worked out pretty good.

here is some more sa stuff:

have you ever caught yourself moving into the pose of a drawing? i was drawing a tense figure once, he was hunched over and angery. i soon relized i was in the same pose, my sholders were very tense, i was basically in the same pose as the drawing and i was rather flustered and mad.

this means something.
