Alright, I haven't modeled anything in months because I've been buffering my 2D photoshop skills. I'm a tad rusty and was wondering what you all think would be best fortify my 3D. I haven't been taught anything in terms of UV mapping, fur, cloth, good rendering or beam effects and was wondering if anyone could help. By the way I'm using Maya 7.

Also what do you think of what I've modeled in the past. (November 2006)

What do you think I should be doing differently?

A lot of your answer would depend on what your trying to model on what end result you are trying to reach. Different software and techniques are going to give better results depending on whether you’re doing characters, environments or structure/objects and then whether it is for stills or animation.

Some general advice would be to practice as much as possible, take paper sketches or plans and try to convert them into a usable model. Maya has very easy to pick up UV and texturing utilities and are well worth experimenting with. Like with any art you should be able to tell yourself what is working and what is not.

If you have further specific questions and more examples of your work there will be people willing to help you.

can you post some reference so we can see what you are trying to go for? also you may want to think about posting at http://forums.cgsociety.org or http://www.tweakcg.com/forum/ they are modeling forums...you'll find a lot more 3d oriented help over there.
Good Luck! :)
