Mr.Delicious: I've been drawing TONS of nudie ladies. Tons.
scott marshall: Thanks! I take too long and get distracted too easily to be able to draw much in real life, my refs are all pictures I saved in a folder. I can when I force myself to sit down & focus, which isn't often.
Here's some old ceramics stuff I liked from high school, & my first project in 3D design this year. We had to make a lamp. He gave us wire and rice paper to use, but I chose not to use either. I made a baby lamp & night light.

Lights on
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b269/loveandasandwich/DCFN0018.jpg
Lights off! This looks much better in person. My camera is extremely terrible, and some light shows through the headphones too, I poked tons of little holes in them. Unfortunately, when I came into my class to hand in this project, the first thing I did when I walked in the room, was trip and drop it on the floor. Damn my clumy feet!

I forget the name of this technique, but it's when you twist or roll or stack colored clay around eachother and cut slices out of it, and then roll it into the slab of clay youre making into the piece. It's realllllyyyy fun & makes lots of interesting shapes.

Neat-o baby lamp! Actually thought it was a Buddha statue at first. It's neat to see your progression of work through the years...Ach, it sounds like you guys did fun stuff in 3-D. We only ever worked with white cardboard...and then spray-painted white...again.

VanDog: Thanks! I definitely didn't work hard on it aaat all, but it's a pretty good idea.
tokidokizenzen: Thanks! I've been practicing as much as I can.
DragonSnail: Yeah, I can definitely feel myself improving a lot already. I'm noticing things a lot better than I have before.
NicoRaven: I use really cheap mechanical pencils, they have a good range of value to them, even though the lead breaks pretty easily. & I use fine black rolling ball pens, doesn't really matter what brand, they usually all work pretty good.
moroi: Thanks! Yeah I like my 3D class a lot, it's pretty fun. We had to make bridges that could hold 2 bricks out of only coffee stirrers & wood glue, that was my favorite project 'cause I made a sweet lightning bolt bridge.
I love drawing animals lately. Mostly... animals turned into people. Tried to practice some faces but I got bored and wanted to do new things. I got some drawing books too, but I've only glanced at all but one of them, The Artists Guide To Facial Expression by Gary Faigan. I learned a lot.
Here's some boring notes I was taking:

Your earlier work is really stylish but I have to say that you're later work really stands out. You've done a fantasitc job with how you rendered fur and hair. There're some anatomical imperfections (but who don't? :P) but otherwise great work. This one is just simply beautiful (http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b269/loveandasandwich/sketch20.jpg). Zombie_dla: What about them is anatomically incorrect? I'd like to know so I can maybe fix them, or remember it for the future. :) I like that one too, I noticed after I posted that one of the eyes is pretty noticably smaller than the other, I donno why I didn't see that before.

Hey man, thanks for dropping by my SB! You got some great tuff here yourself! And you got some nice faces going (only thing I'm noticing atm, because that's where my focus is at now hahaha)
The img manager Zombie referred to is probably the attachment manager, which I think you're already using haha. It's really nice of CA to let us use their bandwidth this way. Most places, you seem to have to link to some other upload site.
Keep those pieces coming man! I can see a very clear and marked improvement as thing go along.
CP
Edit:
I want a mustachio lantern too D: it's awsome!
Oh and, the pic that Zombie liked, I think maybe the neck is too long? It's like, more than half the length of the head. Should be more like 1/3. Uhh, no, the shoulders is 1/3 head from the chin, so maybe slightly less than 1/3. So says Loomis anyway (blame him if it's wrong!)

Hi there, thanks for stopping by my sketchbook!
i think the skull study really shows improvement.
you asked me about suggestions for linework, it's quite hard to give a good answer really.. when i draw, i always start with a light pressure on the paper, and draw long loose lines to find something that i like.(this is referred to as "searching" the line) when i do find the line i want, i increase the pressure, and thus accentuate the line.
that probably just messes it up even more for you :)
naturally, this comes with mileage.. the more you draw, the better your linework will get!

For your 30 seconders, I wouldn't pay much attention to the head, just make a quick circle or something and focus on the body pose. If you read some of Loomis's book you can also just use his stick figure method to draw some of them.

Hey there, thanks for the commment! It's nice to see people my own age on here lol. I like your work lots, spech the portraits, I like that you put lots of depth into them if that makes sense. Like.. they're quite dark shading wise which makes the highlights stand out more but also make the shadows really black.. so yeah! ace! Kitten is cute too, I like the eyes.
Um if I had to give critique, i think it might be that you need to make sure you get the proportions of faces correct, they seem to slip a little bit. I do the same! .__. try holding the drawing up to a morror, it really helps i think.

Hiya' miss thang. ;) Thanks for stopping by my SB! Yeaaayy for green tigers!!
Wowee, you are improving leaps and bounds from the word go. I love the stuff at the beginning of this thread, the cartoonish guys and the people of the fro'. Very quirky and original.
Even better is the progress you've made in wildlife and portraits. That last self-portrait is friggin awesome and the one with you and a friend(?) above it...good stuff.
But one of my favorites on the thread so far is the black woman with the tigers. Her face is beautiful, something about her expression blows me away. It's hard for me to look elsewhere in the piece, actually. Damn, I think I'm in love...is she referenced from something? The tigers are good too. One crit is that, as is, the tigers are all the same value scale and so they run together- hard for the eye to separate. I want you to push the values just a bit further on it, if you dare. I think that would take it to another level.
Great stuff here, I'll be watching for more.

Rhineville: Wow someone actually came back here more than once! :D youre definitely right though. I've been trying to make my lines cleaner, my hand always just wants to go over and over the same line. Trying to train myself not too.
Well here's a collage of myself I was working all last night on. Made out of all cutouts from magazines. It's a part of a present for my dad that my little sister & I are working on. She's making herself, & I did myself, & we're both making his face, & then cutting them out and putting them in a composition on a page with some other thingsss.
Well yeah anyways, here it is! heres my face. I cheated on the ear. :D It was too hard.

I like the collage work - I saw an exercise on value and color in a book once that suggested that technique, but I never got around to it. I'll have to give it a crack now that I've seen how cool yours looks

Hey chelsea, thank you very much for leaving a comment in my SB! I took a look at all your stuff and I like it. You had a huge dump in your very first post here and there's a definite improvement since then. I think you should continue to work on your drawing. When you take the time to shade your work it has a very good and unique look to it. I won't bother critting anatomy and proportions, because I think you're doing these things on purpose for style.
Speaking of style, I'm not a fan of artsy stuff like your last one, but that particular work looks cool, so good job!

Hey thanks for the comment! Great work! Your stuff is really expressive, especially when it comes to the color work. Keep pursuing the water color- that stuff is looking great. Personally I hate water color for the only reason that I know I'll never be able to grasp how to work with them. Really great animals! For some reason your animals look full of life, but when you get to drawing the human form there is a bit of a disconnect. Keep working on it and keep studying Bammes! Great job!

First time I'm seeing your stuff. I'm seeing not only the skill advancement as this thing progresses, but style development as well. That's a good thing to have happen. Doesn't work that way for everyone.
You asked earlier about 30 sec. poses. The best advice I can give is to think of what you want to capture before you sit down to draw. Do you want to capture the line of the spine in the various poses, muscle contours on the interior of the body, the position of the pelvis in relation to the ribcage and/or head, shadow pattern, etc. You'll use the time more effectively if you just focus on key ideas. You don't have to get the whole figure down.

The shark you did paint was very nice, I liked that the most out of all the stuff on this page. The last ones are interesting, definitely a different style. I'm sure they could be great simple pieces if the darks were pushed really far, lights brightened, etc.

There's so much cuteness to be had in here my manliness comes into question each time I visit. But there's a hot cow chick in here, so it all balances out.
Watercolours are looking good, ever think of taking more time on one particular one and really getting into some detail? I don't know watercolours from my own ass so I don't quite know what to suggest, but I've seen people use gauche (?) for details and it always adds more 'punch' to it.

Dave= The more I look at those sky paintings, the more I hate them & the more I just wanna burn them or just take them off here. Theyre pretty awful.
drd= WHAT! for real? that sounds awesome. I need to get on that and watch tons of sharks. <3 whale sharks & hammerheads Yeah I probably could have gone further with those but it was half frustration of not getting it right and half me being too tired to want to really paint.
Rhineville= hahah, everyone can use a little more cute in their life, i think! Yeah I read a lot about gouache in the books I got, but I went to go look for it at Michaels, where I work, & we didn't have any! Some kinda craft store we are.

That is really well done, excellent shading, you're improving so keep hacking at it. I like the original b/w sketch better than the colored collage you posted after that sketch but that's just personal taste.
This one (http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b269/loveandasandwich/scan0002-3.jpg) also looks good but make sure to draw the entire head first before you put hair on it. Right now I think the upper part of the skull should buldge out a bit and not blow away with the hair hehe. Also the neck looks strange, it may not be wrong but we don't have enough of a reference to really tell what's going on with the rest of the body. Anyways, I'm preaching about the same mistakes I make all the time... but don't do as I do!

Yeah I agree that the neck looked weird. I wasn't really thinking about making it look real when I was doing it, kinda just drawing for the sake of drawing.

Seriously though, those portrait studies are very good. You're also very brave to cut up your works and collage them the way you did earlier on this page. I would never get the balls to do something like that.
I have to tell you something very important now as this might save your life at some point. Pandas may look cute, they might look slow and clumbsy - they are NOT. They're evil little fiends and the only reason why most people think otherwise is because they're constrantly high on Eucalyptus (sp?) Watch out for these evil fuggers.

Amazing graphic design ability, you have got style, I gotta say that. But at the same time, you also have a strong handle on realism which is a great combination to have. Really like the color usage, you are able to pick bright colors and make them vibrant, but they aren't obnoxious or clashing. I'll definitely be look more on this one!

Hey:)
Damn! Your portraits are so awesome! I have absolutely no idea if the likeness is spot on or not, but they sure look great. And of course, the animal studies are also great:)
Only critique I can think of now is about Frankenstein's monter's left eyebrow (our right). Its upper edge doesn't show the relief you've shown on the forhead above.
It's great to see the progress with each post! Keep at it!
Have fun now:)

Hello:)
I just love your animal studies.
The contour and blind contour drawings are really nice, even if not completely accurate. For some reason I especially like the contour kitty:)
In the last picture, the hand touching the eye looks as if it's coming from behind the back. I believe this is due to the shoulder showing to the right of it and the sleeve, being cut by the line of back, or completely coinciding with it.
The owls are awesome too! They remind me of Joel Veitch's stuff (http://rathergood.com/). Have you seen it?
Keep doing good stuff:)
Sketch
August 29th, 2007, 02:06 PM
You're killing it lately! Owls rock the shit out of me! I like the contour cat one as well... there's something really nice going in there. Like a life drawing that only uses one or two lines but you can totally tell what's going on. Keep on trying new things and keep the things that are working.

:D Horray so many comments!
Goblinshark: Ok! I don't really use lines like that unless im doing a really in depth portrait that ill work on for hours. But more stuff like that definitely will come.
Windmaker: & I just love drawing animals :D Drawing animals is fun, drawing people stresses me out sometimes. Youre right, the arm does look like it's coming from the back. I didnt even notice that. & Yeah, I know that guy, he did that "We like the moon" thing, I used to love that hahah. The owl does look like that kinda.
Sketch: Killing it!? At first I thought that was a bad thing, haha. I really like the look of the blind contours, it makes for a suprise when you look at it too, sometimes theyre really funny how off they are, & sometimes they have really interesting lines.
Autumnal Dream: Yeah, well pretty much everything except the last drawing in my first post was from high school, but yeah I can definitely tell the improvement I've made. Thanks so much! Here's some more.
Blind contour kitties & hands. I used different colored pens cause if I had too many on one page, you couldnt tell which was which.

Thanks Sketch! Well that first owl only took me about 2-3 hours, cause it was little & easy. The second one probably took me more like 5 hours, since if I don't like the way something on it looks, ill rip out all the stiches & completely redo it. This next one took me around 5 hours too, probably more. I work pretty slow too most of the time 'cause when I sew I watch movies & Boy Meets World episodes haha since it mostly doesnt really need my full attention
Thank you David! well i'm keepin the second one. I made katy something else in place of it. :D

I love the plushies, those things are so freaking cool looking, I love the owls, I love the one with the giant teeth, I love the one that looks like a bear with honey all gunked up in his mouth, the execution of them is awesome but I think the concepts are what make them shine.
I think your rendering of hair/fur could benefit from better grouping of light and dark masses, right now the hair in most of your drawings seems flat. maybe look for the darkest darks and the lightest lights in the fur and render according to those. I think this would give your animal drawings a better sense of form.

I do have some artists trading cards I made recently, they're just doodlefun. 15 min tops for them. I want to make more 'cause they were really fun.

Inverted_chalupa: great! i love smiles, haha

jiga: i hope so! i have so much fun making these. I have a shop open, but i've only sold one thing so far.
agelaos: aw, thanks so much! i definitely will. i make like a plushie a day, usually, so... ill have tons & tons soon enough!

But hey! Look at all this comments! How exciting.
DeathChalupa: You should totally make one! The first one is always the hardest to make, but when it's all done & stuffed, you feel so accomplished haha.
Blaz: Yeah, hahah, I try to give them all names to fit their "personalities". I don't live at home, I'm in a dorm, so my desk is covered, I don't even use my desk cause there's absolutely no room. I work & do my homework on my bed haha.
agelaos: hahah, awww, thanks! I will make millions! & get arthritis at 30! yesss.
sketch: thanks! I was looking on their site, but all I saw was articles on how to make vinyl/clay toys, not soft ones. I always wanted to make those, too. I just need to up my painting abilities a bit.
Dandilion: the moose is on sale in my shop if you want him ;) unfortunately, he's the most expensive on it 'cause he's really big.
Dannysketch & Kian: hahah, thanks so much guys! :D :D!

Omg. Plushies. They're adorable, they have this great graphic quality to them.... lots of personality. I want one D: Your 2D work has the same sort of attitude, but for some reason it shows more in your plushies, which might be what roidvoid was trying to say.

Coinpurse: Thanks! Too bad that cuntt beat me. shes dead.
Pseudocognition: Thanks! Yeah, I know whatcha mean. I'm not very good with drawing realistic sorts of things, I lose attention & I just want to have fun with what I'm drawing/making. Hahah, thanks! my dad loved the card... he cried actually when he saw it... strange.

A self portrait, used the picture my avatar is, just to prove to myself that I can still render. Haven't drawn a portrait in a damn long time.

Congartulations on the sold plushies they are looking pretty awsome. I especially love the most recent one. I'm not really sure how to crit a plushie so all I can say is to keep on making them.
