View Full Version : Some assorted sketches

Well, I figured out a crude way to convert .pdfs to JPEGs so I thought I'd share some more finished works from my sketchbook. I mostly work in grayscale for a few reasons, one because I'm getting used to values, and two because I'm too cheap to buy the right stuff.
The first one is supposed to be some sort of dragon thingy on an upside down tree. I still can't find a good reference on developing the facial structure of things with snouts, so some help here would be much appreciated. Also included are some snake studies I did. I quite like snakes. (:
The second is just two heads, I added the membraney thing because I could, they aren't really supposed to be one entity. I also really need to break away from the profile shots.
And as an added bonus, this is my first thread. yay

No replies means it's perfect, right?!
Just so this isn't a complete waste of a post, here is a t-rex head.

These sketches are pretty good, on the dragon thing on the tree its right arm looks kind of funny might want to try to fix that. The elbow goes to far out and makes it not look right.
I like the two headed thing its good.
keep it up

Yeah, I had noticed that too. I had tried fixing it a few times and that was sadly the best solution I could think of, not perfect though.

Snakes are fun to draw. I used to catch the garter snakes in my mother's flower garden and sketch them all the time.
If you need some images to work off reference, here two links I pulled from my bookmarks. Most other places I use are stock photo sites.

Maybe somewhere in the sea of photos, there might be something you can use to help with poses and the heads.
Sketches are nice though! Though the one arm on the big dragon (the one perched on the top / bottom of the tree) looks a little awkward in pose and muscles in the shoulder area. Nothing that a bit of referencing couldn't fix though. :)

Yeah, I usually don't pay much attention to my line weight unless I'm inking it. And the lines on the dragon guy look kinda trashy anyhow, imo.
Thanks for the links. Usually I just rely on an old herpetology book I've got. It's pretty good for pictures but these will definitely come in handy. And I can never quite get the shoulder anatomy right on quadrupeds, I've been looking into it since I drew that too. Thanks for confirming it though.
