No one has been able to give me a straight answer to this simple question.

This is what I want to be able to do. Create posters, Album covers, T-shirt designs, character concepts, level concepts.Using photoshop and tablets and such.

What degree would cover those things?

I've looked at 2d graphic design, but everywhere I look covers things like color theory and basically everything for advertisement purposes. Will that also cover the things I mentioned above?

Thanks much.

Color theory -IS- a good thing to learn.

I really don't know how to help you with other degrees though. I am doing a BFA in Studio Art myself atm for a solid hands-on media background first. But that's just me.

You might try Full Sail's Digital Art and Design degree path. They are a superb university for the arts but a bit pricey.

An illustatration major or studio art major will teach you the knowledge you need to produce such work. You don't have to actually be taught how to use digital media. What you need to learn is the main principles of art and how to apply them through practice. Once you do that you will have the necessary skills to produce whatever art you want with any media.

Photoshop and tablets are just another medium that attempt to mimic traditional media. The benefits of the digital medium is speed, the ability to commit and experiment without the threat of ruining your work, and efficiency in the sense that you don't have to constantly restock your supplies like you do with traditional media.
