I don't have anything new to add to what already been said, except try to get away from manga. It's been raped and not really interesting any more. There are SO many more interesting directions you can, SO many other other avenues of art you can explore, don't get stuck on all that wapanese jazz :).

manga style aside, I like the way this is handled. Line variation can be a very useful tool, but look at Jean Giraud Moebius and Geoff Darrow, both incredible draftsmen who only use uniform line width and use it beautifully. That said, your line just needs more experience and training. I can see your hand "shake", so to speak. Time and practice will make it fluid.

cool work dude.. what do you use to resize your images? I find Paint shop pro best.. You can tick restrain proportions and reduce percentage.. helps stop em getting squished

its all looking good but the vamp you might want to thin the lips to make the face agressive and show a suggestion of a fang.

Move this to the sketchbook section and rename this. No one is going to come in here and critique all of these, especially if they have to do a few minutes of scrolling around to see all of the giant pictures to boot. Resize and edit your posts so one can see an entire page all at once.

The critique section is getting very lax in its rules. NO sketches or doodles allowed, and an unspoken rule would be one piece at a time. At least, one piece at a time if you intend to get an in-depth critique.

EDIT: wtf? where did the rules go?

wolverinex
May 28th, 2007, 10:09 AM
yes its really embarrasing..even i am getting frustrated by the loading time
but how do i move it

wolverinex

PM a mod (seen at the bottom of the critique center forum) and ask them to send this to the scketchbook section. Edit your first post, go to "go advanced" and you can change your title. You can also edit your posts, delete the pics that are to big and reupload new smaller ones if you'd like.

Muy muy sexy, except the areolas. Kinda funky lookin', what with the dots around it. A little trick for that would be to just make an oval around it with the same pink, and dump the filling in.

"so this is a smaller one hope to get a better response this time ..be the critique and kick my ass"

I not making any accusations.....

HOWEVER....

That first image of the girl, Ive seen before..

I own a set of 4 books on manga techniques... that image looks almost identical as the illustration from the cover of the pen and Ink volume.

That image was an art supply themed drawing and she had a pen attached to her collar... in fact in your drawing, you can still see the erasers and paper clip in her hair.

It could be a weird coincidence.....but it looks very very similar... like her hair and face is almost line for line...

Im not sure who did the original drawing....but the book series I have is the chinese edition..it's a series of four books on Watercolor, Pen and INk, Acrylic, and Color Marker.... I havent seen it in the US... off the top I cant recall the author..

Well sorry to Necropost......But I finally found my book...

Look, Doing master copies is a good way to learn... but you should point that you copied it from somewhere..... or someone will do it for you...

Then it just looks bad.

Wolverinex: I like that you've done freehand work besides this... referenced... one. That means that you are trying to do your own stuff. Post your life class drawings asap!

hmm sorry, dont like manga, and i think the picture is stretched/squeezed. also, i think the girls neck is to long. her neck/torso area looks weird. her head having perfect side view bothers me 2. yur other drawings you uploaded are much better imo. good luck

woa dude.

this forum takes art copying fairly seriously.
in the future, post that you took it from reference and from where, right at the beginning when you post the image.

Also: mod please move thread.
I thought seedling WAS a mod?

Copying manga will only teach you how to draw very badly. Manga is basically a cartooning style - a simplification of complex things. Which means you will only learn to copy surface, and not understand the underlying thought that goes into making good work.

Copying incredible drawings by the old masters and other similarly worthwhile artists will teach you how to draw better, and give you some insight into the thought process that goes into excellent work.
